Methinks that deputy is in a world of hurt.

Methinks that deputy is in a world of hurt.

In many more ways than the couple of obvious ones.

Very sad indeed.

ROSEVILLE — Roseville police say a 3-year-old girl is dead after she apparently shot herself while inside a Placer County Sheriff's deputy's home.

Authorities said officers arrived at the deputy's Roseville home late Tuesday afternoon to find the girl in her mother's arms with a gunshot wound to her right side.

She was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center and then transported by helicopter to UC Davis Children's Hospital. She died later Tuesday night.

Police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said investigators believe the girl lived in the deputy's home, but officials said it was unclear how the deputy was related to the girl and her mother.

Police Sgt. Darin DeFreece said investigators would be looking into what happened to the safeguards he said the deputy had in place to keep firearms away from children.

I Wonder how many other cops don't lock up their guns either.....This will wake them up.

No, most likely, it won't. This has happened before and it will happen again, unfortunately.

And for what it's worth I never locked up my off duty gun at home, unless it was going to be outside my control for any extended period. But I don't have kids.

I'd also submit that it's a little tough to be thoroughly judgemental based on a ten sentence or less news story. We don't know the full totality of the circumstances.

Just sayin'.....

You know, it's really convenient when we all fight to carry and keep our guns handy, and the second something like this happens, "all the guns need to be locked up".

WTF? They DON'T need to be locked up, they just need to be out of the reach of kids. BIG DIFFERENCE!

I'm no friend of LE, but this is not just a cop thing, and snide anti-LEO remarks should stop because it could've happened to anyone.
