View Full Version : mosin carbines drying up?

hey every one,
i have seen that mosin carbines are drying up the last year or so. i was thinking of getting a couple and keeping then in cosmoline for either spare parts or just to have.
i called every sporting goods store in the greater sac area from roseville to davis and i can't find one m38 or m44. the nearest guy that says he has any is that big place in vacaville. that place buys from liberty arms imports and their m91/30's are 239.00. so i would imagine that m44's would be 250. the jerk i talked to just snapped at me and said that he will not talk prices over the phone. he was less than friendly or helpful but they have 3 or so.
any one know any where be it online or in the northbay that has any more lately?

Most of the carbines I saw online when searching just now were way overpriced. Here's one for $200:

The M44 is at the very bottom of the page for $200, but some of their other guns are overpriced, so it might be in bad condition. Search the gun auctions online, I'm sure you'll find one pop up soon. If they really are disappearing, you better get one ASAP before people get savvy!

Check all the Big 5's they sell the m44 (regular, not sale price) for 179.00 (I saw 2 at that price when i bought my last 91/30 on sale 2 weeks ago)

Calguns is the best place to look. Keep searching and you will find what you are looking for on here.

Another Mosin carbine to consider is the 91/59....

Have you looked at the local gun shows? I saw several M38s at the Antioch gun show last year and it's next weekend I believe. Maybe try posting over on the WTB forum that you are looking for one as well...

Pretty much all the carbines have become as scarce as hen's teeth. If you watch Gunbroker you can still snag an M44 though. I've bought two for less than $100 off GB just in the past year.
In addition to the Trader here, the Trader at Gunboards will have one or more pop up every week.
I saw one single solitary M38 at the Reno Show. It was in decent condition but $249 was too much for me.

i called around to the dozen or so big 5's in my local area, none.some say they are not carrying the m44 any more. one said they put a few on clearance and they vanished. so i think ill have to do the GB or other online stuff.
the road runner show is due in a few months ill try to find some thing there. mostly $$$ for middle of the road stuff. but ill just keep trying.
thanks guys

Man, I'm suddenly glad I picked up my M44 on a whim last year. Not only is it in perfect condition, it seems to be pretty uncommon!

It's possible that Century or another importer will will find a cache of M44's in the near future. The former ComBloc nations still have arsenals of obsolete guns.

Allan's Armory has some 91/59's in stock. They were added for sale today/tonight. There are still a few left.
