I recently purchased an SVT-40 on a whim. It's a refurb (plum bolt), matching serial numbers, with sniper rails, but no rear receiver mount thingy.

Beautiful stock and no import marks. The only catch is the guy drilled and tapped the side receiver rails for an after market SVT-40 scope mount.

Normally I would have passed, since I already own a SVT-40 Finn capture. However, other than the holes on the receiver, it's in great looking rifle with a decent bore and rifling. Plus, I got it for a great price.

Rifles are like puppies with me; I have a hard time saying no to rifles that I collect. Just yesterday I told my wife I was only going to look at a Russian laminate and in no way would I be buying it. I was there 2 minutes and saw how damn beautiful it was and made an offer on the spot.

Anyway, what are my option on the drilled holes? What would it cost me to fix this? Can it be fixed? What would be a fair price to sell it for?

Fair price? Probably $400 (parts value) now that it has those holes in it. You got a great deal because it's value has been destroyed by Bubba.

You can probably weld the holes shut and the file and sand back to smooth and refinish. Unless they really bother you i wouldn't worry too much about it unless they start cracking the receiver.

Plug the holes with some headless screws for now. Not much else you can do.

I'll have to lake it apart and have a second look for import marks.

I'll post pictures later on tonight.

I know I got a good deal. I paid much less than $400.00 for it. I got the guy to thrown in 200 rounds of 7.62 x 54R with an 5.56 ammo can, 20 or so stripper clips, a reproduction svt-40 tool, the mount, the scope, and a soft rifle case.

I think it does also. IMO- I good get a bit more than $400.00 for it. Not much, but a bit more.

No, that wasn't me.

I found this SVT-40 by pure chance on another forum. The guy just happened to live in my area. If not, I probably would have purchased it.
