View Full Version : .22LR, how big is your stockpile

04-14-2010, 9:28 PM
I have several hundred rounds, but I understand there are people with thousands... how much do you have

04-14-2010, 9:30 PM
I think I have a little over two thousand which is the most of any caliber I have.

04-14-2010, 9:31 PM
Mines bigger than yours.

04-14-2010, 9:35 PM
Umm approx 10,000 rounds. And the reason is that every time I go to the range we typically go thru approx 1,500-2,000 rounds. And that is with 7 people shooting them.

04-14-2010, 9:36 PM
I never shoot any of my .22s any more.... IDK

04-14-2010, 9:38 PM
7000 or so

04-14-2010, 9:41 PM
2,000 or so

04-14-2010, 10:06 PM
I don't think about going shooting with less than two bricks. I currently have 0.

04-14-2010, 10:10 PM
Just a little shy of 4,000

04-14-2010, 10:36 PM
A few.

04-14-2010, 10:52 PM
Bought this in one day and its not my whole stash...

04-14-2010, 10:55 PM
I'm keeping only 3-4k recently, just sold off about 4500 rounds the other day, I'm shooting too much of the bigger stuff now.

04-14-2010, 11:21 PM
Damn this thread reminds me that I need to go to Reno soon. Maybe that GSSF match in Reno next month might be a good idea since it could mean more reloading supplies, and .22lr ammo. Right now .22lr is the only ammo I need to stock up on before next year, I can reload the rest.

04-14-2010, 11:25 PM
I keep 1k each caliber I have. .

04-15-2010, 12:11 PM
My stash is about 5K rounds.

04-15-2010, 12:12 PM
I would say close to 50K now since I sold around 40K.

04-15-2010, 12:17 PM
I never have more than two bulk packs.

I have a .50 cal ammo can chock full of .22LR I've bought from Wal-Mart whenever I was around. It probably weighs around 25-30 pounds, it's beautiful. :)

04-15-2010, 1:21 PM
I try to keep about a 1000 rounds or so on hand at any given time.

04-15-2010, 1:29 PM
10k+, I stock them only one box at a time. I dont hoard. I also been stocking them waaay before the rush. But I teach alot of younglings how to shoot so we go thru them easy. My own mini-appleseed.

i have enough to considered a lunatic by the media.

04-15-2010, 3:59 PM
Man some of you guys are crazy! I have a modest 2K stash. :)

I had 2000 rounds of .22 before I even bought a gun to shoot it with... that stuff was cheap as s***

04-15-2010, 6:57 PM
I was going to stock up, but the darn stuff has gotten so expensive :(

04-15-2010, 7:20 PM
800? My dad has between 5k-10k. I know this b/c there is an unopened "mega brick?" of 5k on his reloading bench.

04-16-2010, 9:26 AM
Over 20k. That's the only caliber I do not reload.

I have a few bricks.

Close to 50k

I'm over stock-piling .22LR. Walmart never has it, Big 5 and Turners always have it, no real reason to buy tens of thousands of rounds IMO. I kind of wish I'd have bought a bunch when the 550 packs were readily available and $11 at Wal-Mart, but chances are I'd have just shot more and would still only have about 1500rds today.

I do buy cases when I can get a deal, same as I do with all ammo and reloading components, but I don't buy them just to have them.

04-24-2010, 10:56 AM
Less than 2000, Big5 in my area seems not to have it. And when they do, they run out fast.

04-24-2010, 11:43 PM
Just look at at this way, when the dollar is even more worthless than it is now,the brick of .22lr will still have value.

04-25-2010, 12:42 AM
I keep a 1000 rounds on hand.

04-25-2010, 4:58 AM
i have enough to considered a lunatic by the media.

Sad but true :o

i buy more than what i shoot, so i'm able to save some. it's like a piggy bank:)

04-26-2010, 7:44 PM
i'm not tellin ;)

I'm curious if people's stockpiles have changed since two years ago. I've sold off most of mine now since I realized that I just don't seem to shoot a lot. At my slow rate of shooting, I still have a two years supply left which I think I'll stick with.

09-10-2012, 11:34 AM
I'm embarassed to say, really. :o

Suffice it to say: "Not nearly enough!!!"

09-10-2012, 11:38 AM
I guessed somewhere over 20K but, that includes ALL .22 rimfire rounds. I hope that including .22S, .22L, .22Shotshells (at least 2500), .22CB caps, .22BB caps and a few thousand Calibre and Super Calibre rounds isn't out of line.

09-10-2012, 12:18 PM
Had almost 10k, now down to about 2500. Then again, its only .22 so I can have 10k if I find the right price..

Love my .22! :)

Stockpile? What stockpile?

09-10-2012, 4:13 PM
I had a lot before buying that case of 6.6k at the last gunshow.

09-10-2012, 4:45 PM
About 6K right now, feels like I am getting low. Took my daughter and her friend to the range on Saturday and went through about 500 rounds.

09-10-2012, 4:48 PM
0 for now but when I do get my 10/22 I will stock however much fits in a .30 Cal ammo.

09-10-2012, 4:57 PM
Around 12K give or take a hunski.

09-10-2012, 5:02 PM
About 12k because I just bought 10k on one of the deals. I didnt stock up that much previously usually buying 2-3k at a time but now that I never see it at wallyworld anymore I mail ordered and need to take advantage of cheap shipping when it pops up. Probably look to order more when I get down to 5k so I can wait for another deal.

09-10-2012, 5:43 PM
Somewhere between 25,000 and 30,000+. Most of it I bought when my daughter was young and would shoot 550+ at a time. Also most of it was bought when it cost $9.97 for a 550 bulk pack. The other stuff was bought before that. I have the LR HP, LR, Hyper-speed ones in different brands and some 22RF shorts from the 1950-60's for my dads rifle that only shot shorts.

I shoot small quantities also, but when I see a deal I buy even if I don't 'need' any. Amount depends on limits at store and 'excess' in wallet.

09-10-2012, 7:50 PM
I am greating low. I am down to about 15,000. I have started looking for another good deal. Of course I do a lot of work with youth shooters, new shooters and shoot a lot of it myself. Besides, I have a belt fed 22LR that can really go through it.

09-10-2012, 8:01 PM
I had 40 bricks 8 months ago, I just counted and I only have 27 now :willy_nilly:

I hope the next gun show has $14 bricks again.

09-10-2012, 9:36 PM
I've been thinking of buying a case with that Dunn's deal but I just bought one from Cabelas. I guess I could sell some if I had to make space.

09-10-2012, 9:54 PM
600 :( guess a trip to my local gun store is in store, i need more

I go through phases where I shoot a bunch and then go a long time before I shoot any rimfire. It has been a while sinc I went through one of those phases. I even have some of that fancy match stuff in the cabinet. Come to think of it, I have to sight in that scope I got in one of the promotions on my 10-22...

09-12-2012, 12:33 PM
Who the hell has over 1 million rounds? That is around $36k worth of bulk 22lr at the prices I last saw.

I have 6-8k rounds of cheap bulk 22lr. I bought 15 boxes or so of it a couple years ago when it was hard to find. I was shooting rimfire matches on a regular basis. It was $27 per carton then. It is worth less now, but I'm sure the price will go up in the future. Now I don't use 22lr that much.
