I was in a local shop and there was a guy there selling a 1951 SKS. Asked for 300, but accepted 275. Said it has been in a safe for 8 years and had never been fired or re-arsonaled. The wood is scratched up, But no deep marks. The bore is shiny and there is no wear on the bolt or reciever at all. 99% blue. All matching numbers, The bayo has not been sharpened. Still has the cosmo. Has a cartouche of 7 in a triangle on the stock and an import mark of KBI, Inc. HBG, Pa.
I just couldn't resist. Looks like I have a rifle to clean.
Did I get a good deal or get cleaned myself?

Looks like a good deal to me.

Pretty rare I see one go for less than 300. Russians generally command a $500 price tag.

Thanks all, I thought I'd just break even. Just found a 4 piece cleaning kit in the buttstock. The brush bristles are still white. It's funny that I just happened to have alittle over 300 in my pocket at the time. Guess it was meant to be. I'd like to refinish the stock. This rifle has some beautiful wood! Good idea or bad?

Leave the stock alone. Go find some 7.62x39 and let us know how she shoots!

That's what I wanted to no.... Glad I asked. Got ammo for the 78 Romi G. I'm building.
I just cycled 10 rnds. I can't believe how smooth this rifle cycles. All in a neat pile on the carpet. Can't wait to site her in. She seems to be lighter than my AR. I think we are getting attached....
What about just touching up the scratches with a stain pen?

SKS are fine rifles. Fun to shoot, reliable, and just pertect for backpacking/hiking. One of my favorites.

Enjoy!

Thanks Claude, When I walked into the gun shop, they didn't want it. Said they couldn't make any money off it. I complemented the owner on it and he said I could have it for 300. I asked if he would take 275, and to my suprise, he said yes. With a hard case too! I am drosing his Redhawk 44 mag, 7 1/2" on Saturday. For $150. :) YEAAAA!

Who is this mysterious low-price gun seller and can you introduce me to him?

I would say to use some BLO on the stock, no touch up, but thats up to you. Man, i paid 300 for my Russian 5 years ago. Im not gonna say what i paid for the S&W M29 44 mag. Once again, great score.

I told him about the FS forum here and Gunbroker. He was a really nice guy and I told him not to cheat himself on selling the Ruger. He still insisted that I buy these 2 at this price. He had a Colt python, 3" for 250, but it was going to be sold later today. I wish I had the 900 he was asking for his AR. 20" bull barrel with rails. Had Kilroy on the reciever. I told him not to take less that 1200. I have a feeling that it will be posted soon on one of these 2 sites.

3"Colt python for 250!! Does this guy have any idea? I would drive from Fresno right now for something like that.

Yes, He did. I told him the python was worth about 800 with the holster wear. But he already had a deal set up. He was driving a new hummer. I don't think he cared. Must be nice.

I was wondering what that meant. Wonder what they did. All the numbers match. Right down to the extractor.

They cleaned it up a bit, stamped it, packed it in cosmo and put that fancy hardwood stock on it.

Nah you got ripped off, I'll give you $350 for it! Haha good snag you got there! If I found a Russian SKS for that price, I would have taken it in a heartbeat.

Eight years ago, it was a bit over priced at $300. Today, I bet a shop would give you $300 for it and resell it for $550-600.

Wow! The stock has some scrapes, But the metal is great.
Whats with the chrome bolt? All the ones I've seen are blued. That is what caught my attention.
