OK folks I'm confused as heck here...

I have a stripped .308 HAR-25 lower. Some have said AR-10 uppers and mags will work with it, some say they might not. Does anyone know or has anyone experimented with these and AR-10 uppers?

Basically,

Armalite ar-10 uppers work. Some people got bad receivers which needed to be sent back for a replacement..

DPMS mags work but the lip on the top needs some filing. m14 mags and fal mags work but need more modification...

this is what i have read, i will know more next week when i really try and see what fits.

so is it possible to take a normal AR lower receiver and convert it to .308? or is it required that you have a .308 lower receiver?

Last time I checked, a .308 cartridge doesn't fit in a standard AR (223/556) magwell. :D

So yes, you need a dedicated .308 lower.

Although an AR-15 5.56mm lower can accept a _HUGE_ array of ammunition, it cannot accept 7.62mm NATO. The reason why is because the 7.62mm NATO cartridge has larger dimensions (7.62 x 51mm) than the 5.56mm NATO (5.56 x 45mm) magazine well is capable of accepting.

This is why there is such immense interest in .308 lowers.

Have you seen the HAR-25 yet? You gotta LOVE the funky built in trigger guard. After I saw mine I thought, "Man... this thing is cheesy looking!" But when it's the only choice we have we must learn to embrace the ridiculously oversized built in trigger guard and other unique features of the HAR-25 :o !

I'm still hopeful on the LAR-10. If it gets listed, oh well, I still have my M1A.

I'm kind of peeved that Armalite holds the patent on the M14 mag compatability, I've got a good quantity of 20 rounders!

If you're looking to build a .308 you better grab one of the .308 lowers out there fast because the supply is rapidly shrinking and demand for these is HUGE.

As far as the 6.8mm lower goes, give yourself a pat on the back because those are _RARE_. They are especially desirable because of their connection to special forces. I have a STAG-6.8 myself and it is one of the more cherrished parts of my collection.

awesome! now i have to decide whether to make that one the tackdriver or carbine, both would make the special forces proud:D. i have 4 lowers i need to pick up and some might be made by high standard, ive heard they are the best?

You can do a 7.62 X 39 on a AR-15 receiver. DPMS sells them.

On a side note POF showed their .308 gas piston upper at the shot show, does anyone know how well it fits on some of these .308 lowers? They also had a 6.8SPC

6.8 SPC lowers are more expensive. Can't you just register your 223 as 6.8SPC? I thought they were exactly the same.

Only difference is the engraving on the side..

When you register(if registration opens) you should register it for all the calibers that work with it.
