I'm looking to purchase my first handgun but unfortunately the funds aren't there. At some point I'll save up and get a nice ~$550 handgun but until then...

Have a USED Hi-Point? A 20 year old Ruger? A 40 year old nameless pea shooter?

If it shoots and you'll sell it for $100 or less, I'm your man ;)

I'm located in Santa Barbara and Ventura and will drive up to an hour away. Thanks for your consideration!

Note: 9mm preferred, anything not totally obscure or custom accepted. I'll just be glad if I can find something!

EDIT: Found one. Thanks!

Welcome to Calguns, good luck but it will be difficult. Also the paperwork will cost you, DROS and transfer fees.

Thanks, and yup :) But I figure other than the $10 transfer fee, the rest is still applicable regardless. If this doesn't pan out soon (not sure I expect it to, but it's worth a shot) I'm saving up for maybe a Ruger P95 (or a Glock 17 or a Springfield XD9 or a Sig... still finding the one that 'fits')

And pay for gas.

Yes, and I'll probably even eat lunch at a restaurant while I'm there, got it.

All of these things are true whether I buy a $20 gun or a $3000 gun. If I can find something cheap, though, I can still manage <$200 out the door.

The XD9s are great handguns. My dad has one and it is pretty sweet. I was thinking about picking up one in .45 ACP.

Turner's has a new Phoenix Arms 22lr pistol on sale this week for $139

But you would have to drive to a Turners....

Don't forget that should you need to go #2, you would need to do so at a toilet that is not necessarily cleaned as often as you are accustomed to. Just another thing to account for when purchasing a cheap handgun.

According to our local media, your best bet is to go back to your high school and hang around the back parking lot. Over there, <$100 handguns are plentiful and there are no complicated forms to fill out or any extended waiting periods.

Despite the negative responses here, thank you to those that PM'd me. I've found a handgun I will be purchasing.
