This shotgun is also used in the PC video game "Hitman 2: Contracts." In one of the last scenarios you walk into a flower shop. There's the obligatory long box of roses. You can hide your SPAS-12 in it, walk around the hotel looking for a victim, and when you actually select the weapon the game goes into slow-mo while you stylishly fling open your flower box and draw the shotgun.

That looks cool! Anything that looks that great must be illegal in CA.

Smart man!

12276. As used in this chapter, "assault weapon" shall mean the following designated semiautomatic firearms:
(c) All of the following specified shotguns:
(1) Franchi SPAS 12 and LAW 12.

I have a Spas-12 sitting in a safe in a free state.

A few observations:

The manual of arms is a bit complex.
The gun is a PIG - really heavy.
It is both pump and auto. Auto is reliable with heavy loads only.
When using the rifle sights (with the stock extended - of course) remember to lift your cheek off of the stamped steel buttstock before you press that trigger. Otherwise it leaves a bit of a mark.
You CAN fire this gun one handed using the "hook"
It is truly badass looking. I love mine.

The SPAS 12 is specifically listed as a prohibited weapon.

I guess it's because it is a semi auto with a collapsable stock?

jdberger, how do you configure the stock to use the hook to shoot one handed? sounds cool; I always wondered what the hell the hook was for.

It's probably illegal to even look at it in CA.:D

Yes, it was banned in 89.

I had one briefly back then... it was way too heavy, but at the Los Altos manual trap, it would hit them all...

With the stock extended, the hook swings out to the side. It hooks under the forearm and that helps to support the weapon. Not terribly practical, but might be interesting if you were, say, driving a truck in Iraq and wanted to have a little 'BLAM' and still be able to hold onto the wheel.

Get a Benelli M3 if you like the SPAS-12.

The M3 is what the SPAS-12 wishes it could be. :D
