Hey guys i know this isnt a .223 thread but i just thought i would like to inform you guys about this. My buddy has one of these cool "Mp5" he told me about it. He of course had it before the ban and his is registered. Except the company was sold and now this company is making them. Im pretty sure they are off list. Only thing i dont know is if they would be willing to sell stripped recievers. Any ways i found out today and it was too late to call them. I will give them a call on monday and find out about bare receivers. I wanted everyone to know because these are one of the coolest toys out there and i dont want anyone to miss out on them. Lets just hope they will agree to sell bare receivers. Also if anyone notices anything illegal about this one can u please let me know?http://www.bobcatweapons.com/

I may be wrong but isn't Bobcat Weapons the outfit that has had a bunch of different names, has an owner that cusses out and badmouths anybody that has a problem with his products, and while he claims his guns are better than HK's they are actually known to be of inconsistant quality?

oh i have no idea that sucks if your right all i know is the one my buddy had built works well and he has had no problems but i odnt know of anything else.

I have no personal experience with them but I remember reading on THR about a bunch of problems with quality and service. Here is something I found with a quick search

http://www.arizonaresponsesystems.com/notes/sw/pagesw.htm

If the price was right even a half-assed Cal-legal MP5 would be better than none at all though.

They (Bobcat,Vulcan, Vector, etc.) won't sell bare MP-5 clone recievers....But I picked my MP-5 receivers up 5 days ago, along with my g-3 receivers to make PSG-1 Clones. I cleaned them out, bought 28 total...:D

Would you have to put a 16" barrel on this?

Mr.RoDiN
02-17-2006, 10:45 PM
yes you would have to put a 16 inch barrel but there is a fake silencer which goes over the barrel so it looks ok

Semi -auto MP5 kinda defeats the purpose of the MP5 doesn't it? Kinda like a semi-auto Mac-10.

From what I can see, the stamp on those recievers says Special Weapons... which is the brand that arizonaresponce link says wasn't too good.

Anyone with any firsthand experience... or, know of any different brands they want to PM me?

Ya if anyone knows any good mp-5 off list clones let me know please i am very interested. Oh a stupid question. can you build an mp-5 with a 91 receiver? Or is that strictly .308/.223

I just don't get this PTR-91 or SW-5 thing.
They are just paper weight or bolt action with an ugly 10 round mag.
Or someone please tell me how they could be SB23 compliance ?

Mr.RoDiN
02-17-2006, 11:51 PM
Oh ya they are im just saying WHAT IF IT GOES THROUGH?

SI-guru
02-17-2006, 11:58 PM
Goes through what ?
There are not 10s of thousands of them floating around like the off list lowers. CA DOJ needs a special court procedure to put it in the list. CA DOJ is more than happy to use SB23 and keep it that way.

Semi Mac-10 clones Rock!
With a sidecocker, Eotech, and a 30-rnd mag, that is one bad *** mofo. Nothing like 230 grains going down range. Rangemaster calls it a spacegun. Evil lookin toy, gets way too much attention. Got that drug-dealer image problem from the 80s.

Glad they are Kali ok. Just hard to find, only PPTs.

BTW: Weaponeer has a GB on SW5s....

Sorry, no camera, but here is a link:

http://www.masterpiecearms.com/10SST-L.gif

No thread barrel, add sight and mag. Add a clip-on sling to hang it around your neck - it gets heavy.

The 9mm version is ok but I love the four-five with its 3" fireballs. Targets look like swiss cheese, not 9mm pencil holes.

No. You cannot build a mp5 clone with a 91 receiver. The magazine size is complete different as well as the other parts like the recoil setup, bolt carrier etc.

You can build them up, just they have to have no pistol grip and flashhider and/or with a fixed mag. Yes you can do it with a fixed mag...and isn't hard to load like people think it would be..that ejection port is pretty big.:D

I wonder if you could take a 30rd mag , slice a hole in it, and make a follower pull-button.. you could then load it from outside the rifle, 10 at a time through the back of the mag. Someone posted an AK variant of this idea awhile back- it might be a lot easier than trying to load through the ejection port (and a lot less hot!).

Heck, even a string tied to the follower running to a loop through the floorplate would allow you to pull the follower down- you'd just have to do this with a 10 rounder, or permanently block up the old hi-cap. The string idea would work on a 10 rounder if the follower goes down enough to clear the mag well for the 10th round, so you can load it.

Yup, this was the company called Special Weapons, and they were just getting around to making semi auto clones of the HK94's right around 1999. I put my name on the waiting list for 2 of them, but there was a lot of speculation about the commercial viability of this company - not many folks had faith that this company was going to survive. Sometime in 1999, I got an e-mail stating that it was time to send in my $500 each deposit - $1000 total, for two guns that I really didn't have faith were going to be delivered on time or even ever made. I skipped out. In November of 1999 or thereabouts, I laid my hands on one - but it wasn't mine. Someone else had taken the plunge and ordered one up, and it was at my FFL's waiting to be transferred. It was ok - some of the finish wasn't done up where the buttstock mated with the receiver, but who cared - you were going to get ahold of a legal HK94 clone in CA. It seemed ok overall, didn't fire it of course, but just looked at it. Looking back, I wish I had sent in my $1000 deposits, but who knew?

I always wanted to play with an MP5...When last I was in Vegas my coworkers and I went to "The Gun Shop" on Tropicana and we all shot MP5s. Nothing like full auto fun. I have a target of OBL with 47 holes in him (I attribute the three missing holes to double or triple punches through the several rounds right in his forehead, of course) :D

LOL, I did the same on my Birthday vacation in Vegas 3 years ago...The problem with geting these receivers here into California is that NO ONE will Ship here from their factories. I'll post pics ASAP of my receivers for those that didn't see them at my FFL.

Yes but I'm almost sure just about all MP5's have semi function via the selector.

Depends what you think the purpose is... the FBI had semi-auto MP5s available to agents for awhile, although not with a 16" barrel for sure.

Skammy

You can build it up as .22 :p

It was what I was doing.. sold off the SW receiver and German MP5 parts.. after I lost interest..

Still trying to get rid of the .22 conversion :(

Oh and whenever Ohio Rapid Fire finishes their RF-5 reciever I know they will ship

That's very nice. Is this an HK94? It doesn't look like one of the SW5 clones. Very clean finish, and you have the Navy lower. Cool.

so whats the deal on this?
we can purchase the recievers and build them up as long as it has a fixed 10 round mag and a fixed "fake" supressor to make the barrel 16" inches?
If so, my CA legal ar15 project will have to be put on hold :)

xYourLocalAR15x

so 16 inch barrel, fixed mag, no folding stock eh?

thats not that bad...

What about taking a hacksaw to the PG? Making it flush should allow you to keep the 30rd mag unmolested. It would be hard to fire, but still cali legal right?

There is a guy on UZI talk that builds the fake plastic cans for these. Looks real nice, slip right over the 16" barrel. Same dude also does them for UZIs. Gives the barrel a more meaty and meaner look.

BTW - some emailed me about Weaponeer. Its www.weaponeer.net

Hope that helps.

Check these guys out :
http://www.mfiap.com/airsoft/acce/m4-fake.htm
They claim it is metal and can go to real steel.

BTW, years ago I heard there is a German training kit for MP5 in .22LR and there are about 20 of them made. The problem is it only has 20 round mags. If someone can made some 10 round mag for it, it will be something worth considering.

ANywhere from 500 to 1200 for a kit, you can do searchs for POF, special weapons, and of course the easiest way is to buy a bobcat and just dros the barreled receiver. The HK94 is named and bobcat is good stuff.

I looked and it seems they run about 1500 for a complete gun, problem with just buying the reciever is you need to weld and setup the trunion which if you dont have the tools runs an extra 100 bucks

This needs to be done with the SW5 too? I thought that was just the PTR91.
