View Full Version : M1A with Flash Hider question

One of my coworkers bought a Springfield M1A way back in the late 80s. It has a Flash Hider attached to it. Is this legal to still have on the rifle being he did buy it before the ban? Or was he supposed to get it registered as a AW? Or is he supposed to swap it out with a muzzle brake or stablizer? He does not want to own anything illegal. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Look at the AR/AK FAQ. The rules for "assault weapons" defined by characteristics are there.
If he has made no other modifications to the gun, he needs to swap out the flash hider and put on a muzzle brake. He had to register by a date long past, or he has to remove the characteristics that make the gun an "assault weapon."
If he's put on a different stock, that, too, may need to be removed.
He will need to change out the flashhider and install the KA approved muzzlebrake. Or he can leave the flashhider on, but it will never see the light of day. :D
