View Full Version : Carrying the Big Ones

I LOVE my new Mosin and have the bruises to show it (tough love) but no one in town sells a carrying case to fit my new baby.

What do all the C&R types out there do? It has to be a common problem, since most older rifles tend to stretch the 42" limit of most cases I find. What's your solution?

I just checked the labels on my rifle cases and they say "Double Triple" and "Item 1652". So it looks like they are made by this company... http://www.doubletriple.com/ If you go to that web site and click on "rifle or shotgun case" it will show you a bunch of different cases they make. If you click on any particular case it will show you the model number for their 52 inch version of that case. I don't think they sell anything on their web site though. I got mine at the Cow Palace gun show from the vendor who sells all of the gun cases and pistol rugs. The 52 inch model fits long mausers like the M98/22 and long Mosins like the M91/30 just fine.

sew a basic canvas bag with a drawstring end.

but then again my mosins are shooters, hey have more nicks and scratches, and whatever else the soldiers did to them before being dipping in cosmo that i don't worry about putting new ones on them.

Canvas and denim attract moisture so it needs to be treated or gun oiled up well if it's going to sit for very long. Ask me how I know.

Thanks. I'll check out some of the big retail chain stores. I usually try to support the local m&p stores, but so far none of them have carried what I need

Cinco Grande has some long Bob Allen soft cases that will work. Some are deep enough cross-ways that will fit if you turn the bolt to the "up" position instead of closed.

I got a really long soft case off eBay. Had a silly camo pattern to it, but at least I have a case for it now.

you don't store the guns in the cases.... you suppose to store them in the safes or cabinets. the bag/case is only for taking out to ranges...

True, but so does the foam in most hard gun cases. Ask me how I know...

Gun cases are for transport, NOT storage.

I got my 52" softcase for $15 at Big 5 when I picked up my Mosin. It has a side pouch that holds the accessoies that came with the rifle nicely.

The plastic Dosko cases that are sold at Big 5 will hold 91/30s, M-39 Finns and M-44/M-38 sized Mosins. For M-91s (pre 1930) you will need a shotgun length case as they are longer than the rest of the Mosins.

I cant say anything about a hard case, as i dont have one, but the Mossberg softsided shotgun cases that are on closeout now on their website fit my 91/30 just fine(without bayonett) and they are only $15

Found a Kodiak soft case at Big 5 that works great. Too bad local shops can't carry anything longer than 42"...

I once had a M91 which was a good 51" long (or about 4 inches longer than a 91/30). I simply used one of those gun socks on it and it was long enough.
