Growing up we always hunted coyotes with a 22lr and rarely did my brother (and later I) have to place more than one shot into the dog to drop him cleanly. It was a matter of pride and pelt conservation for us. Surfing the net for 22lr ammo reviews and hunting suggestions it seems that the vast majority of coyote hunters shun those who use the capable .22 in favor of the bigger .223 and 22-250. I've seen a coyote taken with a .223 and the exit wound left his entire thigh devoid of fur IMHO thats not good for the fur trader or my bounty.

Youll get just about nothing for CA furs, and theres no bounty on coyotes in CA.

Where I have seen bounties, it was usually for ears or tails, furs didnt matter.

Blast away.

I grew up in Nebraska, we'd get 40 bucks a pop for 'em :)

Warm weather coyote pelts are worthless. Only prime furs from cold weather states have any value.

Dont shy from a .22lr if you are comfortable with it. Save anything you can from the animal that is just ethical and correct hunting.

PCH makes boxer briefs from them. That's about the only use. ;)
