Hi, I'm looking for my first AR here. I've decided on a Colt 20" A2 style AR15 with a heavy barrel. Looking to spend between $600-$900.
Also, the rifle doesn't have to strictly be a Colt, although I prefer Colts. Any A2 style AR15 (with a 20" barrel, no carbines) will be considered.

Thanks,

ANB

I assume you are a LEO w/ dept letter or military temp stationed in CA?

No, I'm just a regular civilian.
Don't tell me Non-SP1 Colts are on the list too... :( I was under the impression that if the "evil" features were taken away and mag was locked then it was legal, even if it was a Colt.

Most Colts are banned by name. Go hear and study so you fully understand what your doing before trying to buy.

Ah, alright. I thought I knew the law but I guess I didn't. I know about the "evil" features law but not the banned list.

Thanks for clearing it up. Now I feel embarrassed! :o

No need to feel embarrassed. Just make sure you fully understand the laws before trying to buy.

Thanks. I've just never bought a rifle online. I usually just buy at the gun shop but I never need to be careful at the gun shop, everything they sell is legal to own.

Thanks for the offer. I'm looking for a complete rifle though. I think I have to be 21 to purchase a lower receiver correct? (which doesn't make ANY sense) I'm 19.

Nope 18 for long guns. 21 for pistols. An OLL is a long gun.

Good. I was mistaken then. I saw a retailer state in fine print once that lower receiver are for sale to those 21 and over only. So I assumed that was the law.

If that's the case then I guess building an AR wouldn't be a bad option.

Since the rifle I'm looking for isn't legal for a regular civilian like me to own, close this thread. I'll make a new thread.

I have a almost new Colt A2 HBAR 20" upper with a MI freefloat rail that I spent about $875 on. If you want it, ill sell it to you for that price.

Thanks for the offer, that's a great price! But right now I'm looking for a complete rifle, if I buy a complete lower and buy your upper I'll go way past my budget. I'll probably be kicking myself later though. :(

You can NOT buy a stripped lower until you are 21! You will have to buy a complete rifle. BTW, I've seen gun shops sell guns that at not Ca legal so, be careful, even at gun shops!

Oh, didn't realize you were being facetious. Still it shouldn't be hard to find a OLL Colt for far less than $1500. For example, how about this one, it could be considered a OLL Colt for less than $1500, asking $1100 in S. CA.
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=288320

Or this one, seller is asking $1000 for a Target HBAR; it's very possible he'll strip the lower receiver, keep it for his trouble and send you the parts for the $1K asking price. Then get any OLL for $150 DROS'ed, and you've got a OLL Colt for under $1200.

the first one is not a colt and the second one is a banned receiver, so neither one would be a colt unless you have a colt match h-bar elite or the other off list lower made by COLT.

Got it, you're looking for a rifle built on a Colt manufactured OLL, not a rifle built with all Colt parts on an OLL. In that case, I think <$1500 shouldn't be as much of an issue as finding dealers in and outside CA that are willing to believe in the concept of a Colt manufactured OLL.
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=274330

As for <$1500, for you and the OP's benefit, here's a complete 6940 lower, NIB, for $595 shipped.
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=164522556
But since he's not willing to ship to CA, find yourself a willing middleman and a willing in-state dealer and you could still have it in your hands for around $700. (This is nearly $300 more than most any other non-Colt complete OLL, so you've really got to love that pony and be willing to risk any legal hassles.) Slap on a nice new $600 upper and you're still hundreds below your $1500 threshold. And if you want all Colt, SP1 uppers start at under $500 on the web, making a 100% Colt rifle on a Colt OLL totaling only 80% of your threshold quite possible.
