I have a Colt M1911A1 that was passed down to me and would like to find out more about it. Anybody know anything about these?
On the right side of the frame, at the top and to the left of the grip it has the crossed cannons, which are barely visible.
Also on the right side, it says "United States Property", M1911A U.S. Army, and has a serial number of 897XXX.
On the left side, just to the left top of the grip are the initials G.H.D.
The left side of the slide has "Patented APR 20, 1897 SEPT 9, 1902 DEC 19, 1905 FEB 14, 1911 AUG 19, 1913" then has the colt insignia and then says "COLT'S P.T. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.
If anyone can tell me about it and perhaps what it could possibly be worth, I'd appreciate it!

The value will depend on if it is all original parts or if it was an armory rebuild as well as the condition of the gun.

Go to this website: www.coolgunsite.com
Go to ID pages. Go through each category and you will be able to tell if it is all original with all the proof markings as it should have.

Well, I looked at the site you suggested and went to the ID pages. Every part matches the pictures that they show as original and it does not seem to be an armory rebuild. Here are a couple of pics of it, not the greatest though.

I'd be interested to purchase if you decide to sell it.
