I have always had good luck with Bushmaster. M-A parts also seems to have recieved excellent reviews.

+1 on Bushmaster, the triggers are nice and crisp. Any other major vendor like Armalite, Rock River etc. would probably be all right; don't go cheap you will regret it later.

I used RR parts in my lower and a JP trigger. Everything fit and look as it should.

+1. An extra plus is that RRA parts are separated into their own sub ziplock bags.

+1 on RRA parts. Was an ease to install. Even for beginners.

You want military spec parts, or Mil-spec. There are 3 different contractors for the miltary, Id look into those.:)

LMT,CMT also make parts for other guys, but Im not sure who makes the RRA parts kits. I have a Stag kit that works much better than the DPMS one I tried. The trigger is nicer and the select lever detents are more positive IMHO.

I'm a little annoyed that my DPMS kit didn't come with the trigger guard roll pin. It was just a quick trip to the hardware store and pick up a 1/8" roll pin, but why should I have to do that?

i ended up getting a del-ton kit from del-ton.com added the rra 2 stage nm trigger and got the m4 6 position .. there upper reciever with a chrome lined wilson barrel which most people use .. i got it for around 610 looks and fits well with the ameetec.. i have heard nothing but good things about them...

im probably going with a lmt upper on my other one.. with a magpul stock but were looking at more for that stuff.. it can get pricy.. theres the entry to ar's and the top end of ar's..

I think LMT is awesome. Nothing to back that up though.

From what I understand, LMT uses Colt hammers, but makes all the rest of the internals...

Has anyone built an AR from an M&A Parts kit or know anyone who has? Please let me know how it came out. I'm getting ready to order one and just want to make sure they are OK. The prices seem good. $475 for an A2 complete to fit a stripped lower. Thanks!!

There are so many other known-good choices from major vendors in for not much more that you should consider that. M&A and Sherluk are, in the eyes of many, "bottom feeders" in the AR market.

Bushmaster, RRA, etc. won't run you much more.

And get a chrome-lined barrel.

Stick with this forum for a while. You will see a lot of comments for various brands of parts.

You won't go wrong for the name brands such as Bushmaster, Colt, Stag, RRA... etc. Just keep an eye on the market. Deals pop out from time to time.

Where can I find the complete kit? For some reason I can't seem to find everything to fit a stripped lower. I'm looking for something that resembles a Vietnam era rifle. Fixed stock, 20" barrel, A2 upper. Still learning. Thanks! Joe:confused:

model1sales.com Good stuff, i've seen a gun built from one of their kits.. very nice! I am going to buy through them when I get the money (IF I get the money, I was only able to afford the lower)

I get all my parts through Midway or buy direct from DPMS... Bushmaster is expensive in my book......but sometimes I have gone through Rock River...

Saw model1sales.com . I'm looking at $40 cheaper through them for the kit I want. I'd like to order sometime soon. We'll see if anyone else has a recommendation. Thanks!
Joe

I think RRA and STAG are 2 value manufacturers....

RRA - RockRiverArms.com
STAG - Stagarms.com (retail front for CMT, OEM of Bushmaster and such...)

I love the 20 inch A2 rifle I built with parts from Armalite. Armalite makes a really nice LPK and their barrels are nice too!

You may want to consider RockRiverArms "Complete CAR A4 Kit"....
$660 completed rifle, chrome-lined barrel (all u need is an optic or a rear sight); this even included the RRA 2-stage Trigger(itself is a $90 upgrade)....

OK, alot to chose from. Not sure which brand Model "1" sells. I managed to scrape the bucks together that the wife doesn't know about and I have to order one of these before she finds out...Doh!!

Buy it a few parts at a time, that way if she opens the box and goes crazy you can come back with "It cost less than 2 pair of your Vic's UNDERWEAR"

If you are not in a hurry, just collect parts with spare changes here and there. That's the best way to save some $$ and get familiar with what you gonna build.

It's a good idea to snoop the EE board of ARFCOM. Good deals pop out from time to time.

slo5oh is correct, small AR parts are cheap, but Vic...Sec... stuff isn't.:D

What a smart idea!!!:D

But compare to our beloved AR, Tiffany's is kind of too much.....:p

Heres the completed pics of my model 1 kit. I am TOTALLY stoked with this rifle!

It all went together pretty smooth (for my first build) it took about an hour total. The trigger was a little tight but worked in after 20-30 rounds and now is only getting better.

I have done a TON of reading (thanks CG) and I'm of the opinion everyone is gonna have a bad experience sometime but, Just my opinion ...go with the Model 1 kit. The other "big" names are good to but, I think M1 Sales is a great bargain.

I went with the 20" A3 flat top with the national match sight front and rear with the detatchable carry handle (handle and sights +$83) I also went with the free float barrel with aluminum fluted handgaurd (+$25).

The total was $561 shipped. All the pieces were there and it all went together smooth.

Here's some gun porn.

Is that the optional muzzle brake I see or is it something else that is included in the kit? Thanks!

I also used Model 1 Sales. I ordered my kit yesterday to complete one of my 3 lowers. :) I bought the XM177 kit with 5.5 hole flashhider and LE stock.

Chris at Bright Spot recommended Model 1 and told me that's what he uses, and I definitely trust his judgement.
