Do not know if this is D.O.J, approved in cal. Cant find it on this site or anywhere else on non approved riffles.
Marlin 9. 9mm. Are the older ones grandfathered in and are the ones made 1985 and up approved? Input and if you would know of a sight that shows alll non approved riffles.
Thanks and hope that I posted this in the right spot.

The roster does not apply to long guns. Other than AWs I'm not sure what is meant by "non-approved" rifles. I suppose if you put a flash hider on it that would create an AW or for some odd reason used a fixed greater than 10 round mag that does the same. But a plain old Marling Camp 9 is OK as is. Aside from AWs, there is no list of "approved" rifles in CA.

Took me some time looking on Gunbroker.com to find one Marlin Camp 9 with a 10 round mag (stock was 15 rounds?). Once I did, no problems with the transfer.

It is a beautiful carbine and a lot of fun to shoot.

You can use S&W 59 mags, they were made in 10-rd capacity, and they're much easier to find than the stock Marlin ones. They're generally cheaper, too.

so long as it's stock... a marlin Camp 9 in a muzzelite would also be an AW.

Definitely a fun gun and worth having, not an AW in factory trim. Far too many goofy little parts in the trigger mechanism, but they don't seem to cause problems. Just check and replace the buffer as necessary and don't get in the way of ejected brass, it comes out of mine really fast. Mags for the S&W 69 series fit flush with the mag well, but 59 series mags will also work.
