View Full Version : Need advice for Western US elk/antelope meat hunt
I am wanting to do an OTC elk / antelope meat hunt somewhere in Western US, probably ID or WY. Any experiences or suggestions, not looking for trophies just lots of meat in freezer.

Dude I got it. Ok, so you want a cow hunt on an Indian reservation. They run less than 1k. From what I've gathered it's essentially an easy hunt which is perfect if you really want the meat. My Dad bought one at auction a few years back at some Hunting dinner. The cost to add on me to go was like $600.
If you want antelope go to Wyoming and buy the doe tags over the counter. I think they were like $44 a tag last year when I put in. Get an area where you can shoot 3 and whack and stack.

The hunt he bought was in Nevada and he's talked about one in AZ before when we were pondering a meat trip.

South Western Colorado is the place you want. Other than that I would say Idaho is going to let you stretch your dollars farther. If you go Idaho get some long gun time in first. From what I understand from talking to guides 400 and 500 yards are starting points.

Yeah these guides I was talking in Idaho. I told them that I like to hunt
elk with my .338 Federal. They looked at me like I was crazy. I said is there something wrong with that. To which they replied that most of their hunts take place in the 400 to 500yard range.
