Sold, Pending Funds

I've had a lot of fun with this one but it is time to start thinning the herd as I don't get to play with it as often as I would like. This is a half-scale Napoleon cannon with a just under 1 3/4" bore... sized for golfballs !!! The wheels are 30" diameter and designed for live fire cannon use... they won't be shaking apart anytime soon. The barrel is double sleeved with seamless tubing. It was originally a 2 1/4" bore and then reduced down to take golfballs. It is approximately 36" long, just over 5" diameter at the breech and just over 4" diameter at the muzzle. Barrel and carriage combined weigh approximately 475 pounds. Comes with everything you need.... powder, ball, fuse, all required implements for loading and cleaning, bore gauge etc. Even comes with a mold for making up 1 pound round shot from lead or wheelweight !!!

I'm located in Victorville (near San Bernardino) and would drive a reasonable distance to deliver.

It's time to get this sold as I need to fund a new project....

Put this in the back of your pickup and you won't be having any tailgaters !!!

03-22-2010, 5:32 PM
What a cute little toy. I wish I could afford it. Are the wheels originals from a mountain Howitzer? Do you have a limber for it? Who made the tube? Who made the carriage?

Put this in the back of your pickup and you won't be having any tailgaters !!!

I've never had a problem with tailgaters when towing full sized guns on trailers!

Evil Dog
03-22-2010, 6:01 PM
The wheels were Amish-made... tube from Hern Iron Works. No limber, never got around to making one. I built the carriage.

03-22-2010, 7:13 PM
Does the tongue have a ball mount for the freeway?!?! So when you shoot it do you go to the driving range?

03-22-2010, 7:28 PM

03-22-2010, 8:46 PM
I can just imagine the letters I would get from my home owners association if I bought this and stuck it on my front lawn! LOL

03-23-2010, 4:32 AM
Hmmm wonder how far she launch a golf ball?

Evil Dog
03-23-2010, 6:50 AM
1200 yards or more... depending on elevation and powder charge.

03-23-2010, 7:18 AM
LOL, not even a cheatin Tiger can match that ;)

03-23-2010, 7:36 AM
Maybe Elin could use it to return his balls

03-23-2010, 8:29 AM
I find it funny that some thing like this is completely legal but we have to lock our AR mags....

I was seriously just about to ask if anyone owns one of these things. I always wanted to build one of my own but haven't got around to even thinking about what I would do with it.

03-23-2010, 8:41 AM
Will you ship? :D

Evil Dog
03-23-2010, 10:12 AM
Yes, I could ship but it would probably be a little on the expensive side. What area do you live in?

mike walden
03-23-2010, 10:16 AM
Will you help me mount it on my hood. If people see a fuse smoking they will move out of me way. :chris:

03-23-2010, 11:05 AM
Man, this would be fun to take to the range! I've got a local 200 yard range...it'd be freakin' sweet to take this out there and get a crowd around...and 200 yards would be nothing, so I wouldn't be spending a lot of money on powder lol!

GLWS, I have WAY too much debt to buy something as fun as this...lol!

03-23-2010, 11:13 AM
Can you play a full 18 holes before the barrel gets to hot? :rofl2:  :tt2:

Evil Dog
03-23-2010, 3:33 PM
Depends on how many shots per hole I suppose. Putting could be interesting.

03-23-2010, 4:07 PM
One of the coolest things for sale ever on Calguns!

03-23-2010, 5:43 PM
That is one of the coolest things ever for sale here. Bump for you.

03-23-2010, 6:33 PM
"I said, 'Get your dog off my lawn.'"

03-23-2010, 7:13 PM
Would probably give a couple senior citizens a heart attack at the course with this thing. Very nice!

03-24-2010, 5:45 AM
Maybe Elin could use it to return his balls

I think she's planning on keeping them for a while.

Will you ship? :D

If you are serious, I'll help you pick it up and we can play with it at my place.

03-24-2010, 5:48 AM
Another technical question. Is the flash hole large enough for friction primers? Or, do you have to use (non-period correct) fuse instead? You should also post pics of the implements. I'm assuming that you have a little worm, a pair of sponges (wet and dry) and a rammer. What kind of head is on the rammer?

Maybe Elin could use it to return his balls

I think she's planning on keeping them for a while.

Will you ship? :D

Evil Dog
03-24-2010, 7:31 AM
The vent hole is currently drilled for fuse or "post-it note" quills... too small for friction primers. It could easily be enlarged to allow their use but never saw reason to as the cannon itself is not period correct... and friction primers cost close to a buck each where fuse is practically free by comparison.

Yes... worm, sponges (2), rammer and linstock are all present. Also chest that holds 20 or so balls with attached sabots. The head of the rammer is turned with a tapered section facing towards the handle end. I had thought of adding pictures of them but figured that it would be just as easy to send additional pictures to anyone that is seriously interested (something which has yet to happen).

I'd asked "nick" his location figuring that if he is within a hundred or two miles I could deliver it but have as of yet to hear back from him. Probably should have asked via PM rather than just replying to his post.

I'd consider any serious offer on this cannon but so far there haven't been any.

Evil Dog
03-25-2010, 2:06 PM
You know you want this..... go ahead and make an offer.

03-25-2010, 2:44 PM
i have always wanted a cannon!!!!!!!!!!!!! but not yet...... GL with the sale....

03-25-2010, 2:49 PM
You know you want this..... go ahead and make an offer.

I do, I just don't think there is enough room in my safe, and if my wife saw that in my garage, we would be negotiating visitation and custody

03-25-2010, 2:55 PM
Is it longer than Tiger?.......:offtopic: lol

03-25-2010, 3:57 PM
i'll take it if you deliver it

Evil Dog
03-25-2010, 4:21 PM
Would depend on where you are located.

03-25-2010, 4:54 PM
I think he is in Bakersfield

Evil Dog
03-25-2010, 5:09 PM
He says "Sacramento" but when posting in a different thread it's "Anaheim". There is an old Russian proverb... "doveryai, no proveryai". Ronald Reagan used the English translation often... "Trust, but verify".

03-26-2010, 3:02 PM
I do, I just don't think there is enough room in my safe, and if my wife saw that in my garage, we would be negotiating visitation and custody

If you buy it with your own funds, she should not be able to get a judge to grant her either. Just tell her to go buy her own!:43:

Evil Dog
03-30-2010, 12:30 PM
I'm really surprised that there hasn't been a single serious offer. Tag, you're it !!!

03-30-2010, 12:40 PM
this would look badass on the front lawn, too bad I have no money! :(

03-30-2010, 2:00 PM
....this makes me want to re-evaluate my HD setup. GLWS!!! If I had a home in a less than safe neighborhood, this would be my first purchase!

03-30-2010, 7:33 PM
I wonder if I can put this on my CCW?

Evil Dog
03-31-2010, 2:07 PM
Think you would need a really big holster.

big red
03-31-2010, 2:15 PM
Now this would be the ultimate neighborhood watch symbol. I over look old Folsom California and this could send the tourists running (LOL). No offense but I am gald you are down south because it is tempting. You can't begin to replace it for what you are asking. Good luck on the sale.

Evil Dog
03-31-2010, 7:12 PM
Thanks Red... I'm somewhat surprised that there haven't been any realistic offers yet. Did I mention that I could deliver it within a couple hundred miles?

Evil Dog
04-03-2010, 8:13 AM
Saturday morning bump. I really would like to sell this.... offers ???

04-04-2010, 8:43 AM

Evil Dog
04-04-2010, 12:04 PM
Nope.... strictly cash and carry.

Evil Dog
04-06-2010, 8:04 AM
Tuesday morning bump.

04-06-2010, 8:14 AM
1200 yards or more... depending on elevation and powder charge.

 it would be pretty cool to play LONG distance golf with some of those cannons, and some ATV/ORV's :D.

Evil Dog
04-12-2010, 5:37 PM
Final Price Drop.... $2000.00. Will consider any serious offer. Delivery included within a reasonable distance.

04-12-2010, 6:40 PM
i wish i lived in the middle of nowhere, cuz i'd definitely blow money on this kinda stuff. stuck in an overpopulated city though! =[

Evil Dog
04-13-2010, 10:49 AM
Would also consider a trade involving a S&W Model 52 or a Colt Gold Cup. Any takers?

Evil Dog
04-14-2010, 1:27 PM
Ok... price slashed to $1900. You know you want it. Possible trade involving a S&W Model 52, Colt Gold Cup or other quality 1911 type target pistol. Tag, you're it.

Evil Dog
04-17-2010, 1:20 PM
Still looking for a serious offer.

04-17-2010, 1:45 PM
I wonder if you can get some type of permit or something to fire this on the fourth of july? (in the city) Just powder only no shot.

Evil Dog
04-17-2010, 1:47 PM
Probably not.

04-17-2010, 7:26 PM
Where is it legal to fire off this type of thing? BLM land? Private property out in the sticks? Very cool... if I didn't just spend a bunch of money on a pistol and a new rifle, I'd seriously consider it. Not something you see often, thats for sure.

Evil Dog
04-17-2010, 7:40 PM
Legal at a lot of established shooting ranges.... just ask them. Of course having 500 yards available is a plus.

Sure do wish somebody would make an offer.

04-18-2010, 6:33 AM
I would love to make an offer but.
1. I am sure it will be way to low.
2. This will not fit in my safe.
3. My wife will divorce me.
4. This will confirm to all of my friends and family that I am insane (lol)
5. I will go to jail because I will have to shoot it down the street.

This thing is so cool. Good luck with your sale.

Evil Dog
04-19-2010, 7:28 AM
I would also be very tempted to trade for a full sized M1A. This cannon really does need a new home.

04-19-2010, 7:39 AM
Have you thought of renting this out?

Evil Dog
04-19-2010, 7:50 AM
Hmm.... pimping for a cannon. Interesting but probably a felony. If renting though I would probably be looking for a full size one rather than a half scale.

Evil Dog
04-20-2010, 10:48 AM
Still entertaining trade offers.... S&W Model 52, Colt Gold Cup (or other quality target pistol), Full size M1A or what have you? Or maybe cash offer?

Evil Dog
04-20-2010, 10:37 PM
Want to sell quickly as I need to fund a new project, so......... $1750.00 for everything. Be the envy of your neighbors.

big red
04-20-2010, 11:14 PM
I am never so glad someone lives so far away (LOL). but someone has to buy this because I am inching closer and closer to the door. Talk about speed control on my street. Have some single action handguns but they are easier to conceal under my motorcycle jacket than a cannon. See me coming up the road on a 125 cubic inch chopper with that in tow? Light up some CHP's day. Good luck on the sale/trade and a bump for a beautiful toy.

Evil Dog
04-21-2010, 12:55 PM
Thanks for a couple of offers, however..... no, I'm not going to sell it for $1000.00. Make the right offer and I will deliver it within a reasonable distance.

big red
04-21-2010, 2:40 PM
Bump it back to the top

04-21-2010, 2:59 PM
If you just need to get it out of your way, I'll store it for you.

Evil Dog
04-21-2010, 4:03 PM
Thanks for the offer but I have plenty of room to store it here.... 2 1/2 acres worth. I need to sell it to finish funding another project. Not desperate enough to give it away though.

big red
04-21-2010, 4:07 PM
I am talking to a friend up north of Sacramento. How far would you drive/haul it to meet someone since you said a reasonable distance. Might help make up a few minds considering puschasing it besides my friend if they do not have to go all the way to Victorville. Thanks,

Evil Dog
04-21-2010, 4:29 PM
I would guess 250 miles or so would be reasonable.... that should be somewhere around Fresno. Would be willing to do that for a definite "I'll Take It" at $1750.00. Would be most unhappy to drive that for a lesser offer once I got there. My schedule has me away for a couple weeks starting the 27th. If your friend is truly interested I could bring it up this coming Fri, Sat or Sun. Like I said though, it would have to be a definite "I'll Take It" for me to make the trip.

big red
04-21-2010, 5:58 PM
He is gone tonight but I will tell him tomorrow and see what he says. Hopefully it is a yes as I can haul it the rest of the way in my El camino (air shocks in the back). I sent him the picture and stuff and told him how to get on caluguns himself. I'll copy your response and froward it on. I'd love it but my next door neighbor would have the Sacramento swat team out here and I don't need the grief.

Evil Dog
04-21-2010, 6:00 PM
Shouldn't really need air shocks.... total weight of maybe 400 pounds. Have plenty of extra stuff that I would be willing to throw in to make the deal.

big red
04-21-2010, 6:25 PM
I'll find out tomorrow if he wants it and you are being more than fair. Too bad I didn't have something nicer than a new RA 1911 to offer you myself as part trade but if he does not take it then I'll head to Woodland to check out a 45acp MPA for myself. I wish I could say he was real serious but I can't tell but I told him how to get on calguns to talk to you directly if he wanted. I think this would be more of a lawn ornament for him since he really is not into guns.

Evil Dog
04-21-2010, 6:29 PM
Don't suppose you'd happen to have a Smith & Wesson Model 52? Or a Model 41 with the 7 3/8 barrel and muzzle brake?

big red
04-21-2010, 6:36 PM
No, wish I did or the offer would have been made a long time ago. The only two S & W I have are my fathers service revolvers and they are promised to my two daughters and only 38's anyway.

Evil Dog
04-21-2010, 6:38 PM
Oh well... doesn't hurt to ask.

big red
04-21-2010, 7:41 PM
no, you are right and Will got back to me after he found my e-mail during a break and he is going to pass. Decided he did not need a lawn ornament that much I guess but he did not say why. I told him I had no problem going to fresno but he said no anyway. Sorry, and again good luck with the sale. Never knew it could this hard to sell a cannon.

Evil Dog
04-21-2010, 8:13 PM
Never thought that it would be this hard either. Oh well, going to a local blackpowder rondezvous event next week and will take it with me. Hopefully won't be bringing it back.

04-22-2010, 8:08 AM
I just got an email about a new Civil War Re-enactment in June. It'll be at Pierce College in case you still have it and want to try to sell it there. I hve no idea what the cost of being a suttler would be but, I can connect you with the event coordinator if you want.

Evil Dog
04-22-2010, 2:49 PM
Yes, we just found out about that one. Had they given us a few months notice we could have probably worked it into the schedule. Oh well, there's always next year.

Cannon still available... I could take payments.

e-mail sent.... tag, you're it.

04-28-2010, 1:03 AM
Hi, Evil Dog,

Did you happen to post the cannon in Craigslist? I thought I saw it there too...Anyway, my name is Bradley Wolff, and I live in Palm Springs; what would it take for you to not have to lug that baaadaasss cannon to the meet next week?
I take it you aren't into trades...
you can call me Wed. a.m. at home( not too early, please!) 760-327-2777
Who knows? Maybe your price'll be my price:euro:

Evil Dog
04-28-2010, 4:14 PM
Can't say as I've ever put anything on Craig's list. Have absolutely no idea how it works. Really good talking to you this morning.

big red
04-28-2010, 5:29 PM
you might check and see if you can locate the civil war players that do a big meet every year up around Ione, California in Amador County. I am sure they could use an extra cannon to play with.

Evil Dog
04-29-2010, 2:07 PM
They generally play with the full scale versions.... you don't want to know what it costs to feed one of those !!!

04-29-2010, 2:10 PM
There are a few little guns which are used at Northern California events but, AFAIK, no event in SoCal would allow this on the field.

Evil Dog
04-29-2010, 2:17 PM
I've seen only one 3/4 scale used at a SoCal event.... and that was done grudgingly. No way a half scale would ever take the field. Sure is fun other places though.
