Kudos to everyone whom turned out!

Shows what kind of power a little bit of organization will deliver.

Wish I wasn't 500 miles away, or I would have joined ya for this one....

The pics of us shooting in the area with the gorgeous, beautiful "pond" in the middle is an altogether separate range we opted to shoot at.

Oh yeah two of us are not in the group pic....

Also, thanks need to be directed to the two whom hauled all that garbage out of there to the dump.

Not a problem! The good part is with us being residents and the way we pay for our trash fees it was 100% free.

Glad we were able to get it all done and also be able to show you guys a safer place to shoot. Next time we should make a clean-up day of the place I showed you and the one I talked about. We could spend a day cleaning up those places pretty easy.

Hope to see everyone again.

Thanks for posting the pics. You guys with the trailers made life easy, thanks so much. That's awesome that you were able to take the loads to the dump at not extra cost.

I'm happy to see you brought some young guys.
I was afraid this would be another example of old white guys cleaning up the world.
Good work.

You do realize this effort was organized by a woman, right? And as a C3 function, you also realize that a good percentage of the C3 leadership (including the architect of the entire program) is under 30 yrs old, right? And you do realize that some of the key leaders are not 'white', right?

;)

ETA: Yes, I am a 32 yr old white male.

I guess that puts me in the Old Guy Category as I am soon to be 41. I had my 16 yr old daughter out there helping along with my Dad. WE had a blast and thank all those that made the trek up the hill and helped us keep our area clean...even though its not the safest spot to shoot it is VERY Visible to the Rangers.

What an awesome job folks!

Considering how precious (and tenuous) our range resources are, it's efforts like this one that will ensure our ability to use and train with our firearms - advancement of gun rights can be muted by the closure of ranges, and I am so very proud of our Foresthill range cleanup team for taking it upon themselves to sacrifice their time in exchange for this difficult, dirty but necessary act of maintenance.

Again, a huge *thank you* to everyone that coordinated and executed this effort. You all should be proud to consider yourselves 1%ers.

Great job guys and gal. And a big Thank You

I do have a question though. That area seems to be very rocky and just does not look like a really safe area to shoot at. Is there a soft backstop somewhere that is not being shown? The area you folks appear to be shooting into has a slight backstop but seems to me as though may of those rounds are going into the forest where god knows what or who could be.

Maybe the pictures just do not show it well. Just asking is all.

You're 41?! When I saw the pictures from the clean up I told my husband that you and your daughter looked like you were the same age.

Thanks so much for coming! And thank you everyone! I REALLY wish I had been able to go!

That was my immediate impression of that range...... very very unsafe cause people use those rocks to prop up targets...... dumb and dumber, but at least it is clean.
The area does shine for shooting clay birds, Shooting to the south, it's just perfect

We did not shoot at the clean up location. For the reasons you stated and others it is not an 'ideal' location.

Someone in the group familiar with the area took us to a better location a few miles away following the clean up.

That location starts with the photo of the "pond." It had a hill backstop and was in a depression rather then the top of a hill. I hope to return to that spot soon.

Hope that clears it up.

No matter what people do shoot there and it is a mess. It is not terrible but yes it is rocky and there are better places to shoot. I have only gone there a few times and mostly shoot cans there with .22's

Was out at the range at the quarry off Finning Mill Rd. this weekend and it is badly in need of a cleanup. More stuff than I have ever seen. Someone piled some of it up into a pile, but there is a lot of junk there.
I would be up for a cleanup day there.

Great Job Guys and Gals! I find people, most, are more likely to clean-up after them selves when it is clean to begin with. It drives me absolutely nuts when I see shooters screwing it up for the rest of us.
I've been a dirt bike guy for more decades than I care to admit and have seen riding areas dry up dramatically. Shooting areas are even more fragile. It is forums like this that help to educate the ignorant and help to serve our collective interest over the long haul. Again THANKS! and oh yeah the rest of you, remember to pack your s... out of there or I'll flick a bugger on ya.;)

Trail buster,
I'm new to the area from Placerville. Would you mind explaining how to get to this safer shooting area? Or GPS coords if you have them. I live in Meadow Vista now. I promise to pack out more then I pack in. I always pick up a large trash bags worth of trash every time I shoot. Unfortunately it only takes a few extra minutes to fill a bag

thanks.

Hi all

I am new to the area too and was looking for a place to shoot. I read the foresthill cleanup threads and went looking for the range yesterday. followed mapquest and gps to the Chickenhawk location but could never find it.. Drove a bit (a lot actually) and found a range above the Oxbow reservoir that was pretty well laid out. It looked like an old dry retention pond. It was a beautiful drive and we had a blast, but I would have liked to find the "Stupid Spot".

Can someone post directions?

Also if there is another cleanup I am in. 4x4 and trailer and tools.

Thanks all

Seesm

As I posted in the other thread I personally am NOT fond of posting directions at all for fear lurking dirtballs will just mess it up more than they do already...

I was told of the spot by another Cal gunner and he was bummed I told everyone about it, but I think if we as Cal Gunners keep it clean we are golden.

And as one poster said site like CGN educate people into keeping areas cleaner... hopefully he is correct!!

Hi all, Love that spot in Forest Hill where the "pond" is in winter. Nice little spot for plinking. Definitely needs a clean up as I was there last week. I would love to help. I took my wife shooting for her first time and had knocking everything with the 10-22 in about 10 mins! I also do not mind helping organize but I do not know anyone on Calguns yet.

Knowing how people trash these places and I see it each time I go out there... I wish I owned that property... I would shut it down and make us all be in the CGN Shoot club I suspect it would stay cleaner (er) :P Makes me soo sad how dirty people can be.

If anyone would like to throw me a PM of the location of either of these sights that'd be awesome. I'm more than willing to haul away more than I bring. I love the Forest Hill area. My wife and I almost got married at the FH Lodge, but opted for The Ridge in Auburn instead. It's a shame it's in California (from which I am attempting to flee) or I would move there in a heartbeat and put down roots.

As Tim mentioned on the first page, the quarry range which is right down the trail from the pond range is in dire need of cleanup. It would probably take about 2 dumpster loads to get all the crap out though. I shoot in the area a lot and it pisses me off when I see how bad some of these spots are.

Was just out there again today. Pulled up to the quarry and there were two people shooting a .22 from the tailgate of a pickup truck. They were drinking beer and throwing their glass bottles on the ground and breaking them. So we left and went to the smaller range down the trail and there were a few guys there shooting. They were nicer but again they didn't pick up any shells that they were shooting.

I was there for a few hours and picked up a couple bags of trash after I was done shooting. This spot had a couple TVs and other crap that people left but was nowhere near as bad as the range down in the quarry.

They would probably be unreadable from gunshots within a month. When I go up I look at the roadsigns. They have stickers on the back with the date they were installed and I have seen some that have been up less than a month that are already shot beyond recognition.

It really pisses me off that people do this to our shooting areas.

One of my friends property is along that ridge.:D We have spent many days riding our dirt bikes to and from the OHV areas and it is always littered with junk. Like previous posts have said this spot should not be known to too many people because you never know who they will tell and so on. Just my two cents! Let me know the next day for a clean up and I'll clear the schedule to attend. Would like to get to know more Calgunners.

We were out 2 weekends ago butchering up one of our goats and the range was still pretty mucky and there was still some snow in spots.

4x4 is good to get there but it's hard to clean when things are covered in snow and muck. We will have to wait till sometime closer to March when we know for sure the ground is more solid.

I was out on Finning Mill Rd. last weekend. I went to a few of my favorite shooting spots and they were all full so I drove down to the quarry range next to the creek. It looks worse and worse every time I go down there. Really sickening how much trash is down there. I would guess there is at least a large dumpster worth of garbage. It would probably take all day to get it looking just DECENT.

Was out here again today. No snow anywhere. Looked way worse than last time and last time was really bad. Didn't have my phone to take pictures. I would like to see if we could set something up with the USFS for an "official" clean up. If we provide labor they might be able to provide a means to get the trash out and maybe officially shut the range down for a day so we could safely clean it.

Will you be going out to that area again? If so, let me know so that I can join the clean-up party.
