View Full Version : Probable value of M1 carbine?

Hello, Calguns,

Owing to a really bad situation, I'm having to consider selling some of our 'pet' old weapons.

Could someone who is knowledgeable please e-mail me or send a private message here, with a good opinion as to a fair (to both parties) price I could ask for our M1 carbine?

This one was from the DCM, back when they were selling them to NRA members.....but I doubt I could find the old paperwork for it.

Its a common or garden variety Inland (if I remember correctly....its not a Winchester, anyway), and in quite nice condition, presumably having been a 'mix-master' rebuild at some time, altho I don't know that for any certainty.

It has the sling, oiler, and bayonet. Some number of original mags (maybe ten-ish, or so, it will take me awhile to find them all) and some number....and some quantity of rounds, possibly 500-ish (I think) will go with the carbine.

I suppose I should explain the bit of vagueness above. That little carbine, with a quantity of loaded mags was one of the 'just in case' ready-duty weapons we had 'on hand' for the Y2K alleged riot situation.

We really thought that all the talk of riots was just 'scare' material, and, as we now know, Y2K was uneventful. At the time, tho......well, its best to be prepared for a worst-case scenario, right?

The little carbine has been at the back of the safe ever since.

Carla

Based only on your description with no pictures provided, here are recent sales of Inland carbines. Look at the carbines sold and see which is most comparable to yours in condition. As you can see there is a price range of several hundred dollars:

If it is a Saginaw Gear that ads alot to the value,You can't sell the mags here in CA.The ammo is worth about 200 or better depending on the manufacture.I would say the gun is worth 650 or better depending on the condition and if it's a SG I would say 800 or better.Google Riverbank Armory he is here in CA and check out the prices he get,s for his.It may be worth doing your homework to see if it is all org, because now is the time to sell with people getting there tax mony back. The bayonet is worth 100 or so depending on condition.

$600-1000 depending on the exact make/condition of Carbine and extras it comes with. Mix masters are pretty common. The mags you can legally sell in California as rebuild kits, disassemble them and you can legally sell them inside of CA.

Lots of pic's and details can narrow things down.
Some of the old DCM releases were reportedly like new from rebuild or light update. The box and paperwork adds to the value as well.

Riverbank Armory is a charlatan. He's well known for manufacturing and selling REPRODUCTION parts as original. He fakes the stamps, coats them in cosmoline and laughs all the way to the bank. I would stay far, far away from ANY carbine or parts that went thru his hands. :cuss:

Wow Riverbank Armory is a faker? I had no idea. His prices are always so sky high but I thought he was just somehow able to source some real fancy original early carbines and then charge an arm and a leg because they're kinda hard to find like that. I'll stick with late feature mixmasters from the CMP!

i tried to search for some other sources for more info, reviews etc... i couldnt find anything about riverside armory and fake parts. Do you have any more info about this? Or is it something that is just "understood". Sorry to go off topic, but it seems like a very serious charge.

Riverbank Armory has a very poor reputation. There were multiple discussions about it on the old Jouster.com and CMP forums, but neither old forum is available now due to crashes and upgrades. He (George Liakos) also sells on ebay as abcleigh and m1carbineparts-com, and on Gunbroker.com as m1carbineparts.com and No Guts No Glory. Not only are the parts identifiable as fakes, but common sense tells you that there is no bottomless supply of rare obsolete parts like flip sights, pushbutton safeties, Type 1 barrel bands, etc., yet no matter how many George sells he never runs out of them.

Here are some discussions on other forums

Look harder. Google "Modesto Fake Carbines" or "Riverbank (not Riverside) Fake Carbines"
