View Full Version : I am comitted..... who will join me?

I, like most of you, am not a lawyer. I am not a politician. I am not the leader of any activist group. I am not the CEO of any company. I am not a lobbyist. I am not a radio talk show host and I don't have my own TV show. Basically, like most of us, I am not in any position of substantial political influence. We can vote, make phone calls, write letters, and we can assemble and protest--- but as we all know, these activites have had very little impact on actually changing the anti-Constitutional socialist charge of the left, especially here in California. So, what can we do?

For me, first and foremost, is to recognize and support those who are in positions of political influence, those who can do something about it. I'm referring, in this case, to CalGuns. With so much at stake right now and understanding what we all have to lose/gain, the importance and urgency to fight the anti-gunners is at an all-time high. I read thread after thread, post after post from people here on this forum asking about this law or that law and what if this and what if that, and what will happen after this and where do we go after that. Point is, we're ALL concerned, we're ALL hopeful, and we ALL desparately seek the same ultimate goals. We sit around hoping and praying for the 'guys with the ability' to make a difference and come through for us. We ask a bazillion questions, just assuming these things will happen by themselves, as if by some miracle. Well, its not going to happen by miracle. It takes real effort by real people. And since I'm not "on the front lines", I need to make sure that those who are on the front lines are armed and ready for battle to DEFEND MY A**!!! (legally speaking) So, instead of just being an ungrateful butthead waiting around for everyone else to go to work for me (sound familiar? think 'socialism'), I've decided to pitch in where I can and do my part. Since I never went to law school and since I don't own a nice enough pair of shoes to defend gun rights in court, I'm going to support those who are actively doing it for me by giving them much-needed money. I've comitted, with the blessing of my wife, to contribute AT LEAST $10 every single month to the CalGuns Foundation. This is my promise from here on out. Yes, times are tough and I'm dead broke-- I wish like hell I could afford to give more-- and when I can, I will. But my minimum monthly donation will be at least 10 bucks. I'm only part-time and my wife is out of work. It sucks. But I'm going to find that $10 no matter what.

With almost 50,000 members, if each of us were to make the same meager $10-a-month comittment, well, do the math. Its crazy money. But since thats unrealistic, lets use a modest 25% of all members--- just 12,500 people. If each of those 12,500 were to make this comittment, that'd be $125,000 EVERY MONTH towards the defense of our gun rights! Dudes, thats 1.5 million a year. What could they do with 1.5 million a year?

So who will join me? Remember though, if you make the comittment, STAND BY IT. Mark it on your calendar every month, "send $10 to CalGuns". Lets stop b*tching and begging about rosters and CCW's and mag cap limits and DO SOMETHING TO CHANGE IT. These guys are ready, and they're willing...... but they can't do squat without money. Want that CCW in your county? Give $10! Want that roster eliminated? Give $10!! Want those dumb-a** bullet buttons off your rifle? Give $10!! (and more if you can!)

Make your comittment here, publically, for all to see. Then stick by it.

CalGuns, you have my word and you can count on my $10 every single month..... writing March's check tonite, it will be in the mail tomorrow. As soon as my finances improve, I'll up my monthly contribution accordingly. But doing nothing is NOT an option.

We now have a new address (and a direct bank account) to accept donations to:

The Calguns Foundation
3200 Bridge Parkway Suite 202C
Redwood City, CA 94065

Now all you have to write on your check is "The Calguns Foundation." Please include your email address or Calguns handle so that we can send you thank you letter for your tax deduction once our 501(c) status is complete.

We now accept both PayPal:

Oh, forgot to mention.....

If any of us ever face gun-related discriminatory prosecution, CGF will be there to help defend us. Are we really going to expect this service for free?? Well, some of us might...... but I don't. Legal representation is EXPENSIVE. If my $10 a month helps to defend a fellow law-abiding CA gun owner from outrageous politically-motivated prosecution, then its money well spent.

Good Idea... I give $50 or so sporadically. But a concerted effort to give a fixed amount every month pledge sounds great!

Great post... we all should contribute whatever we can. A few dollars here and there adds up into real money when spread across tens of thousands of CGNrs. I've got some dough from a stock sale coming at the end of the week and will have a contribution inbound.

Hi everybody! My name is Emma, I'm ErikTheRed's daughter. I'm 12 years old, and I enjoy shooting with my dad very much. I even have my own 20 gauge shotgun and my own 22 rifle. I want ot give my dad one dollar a month to put into Cal Guns. I also agree with him on what he does to help the lawers defend all gun owners' rights.
Thank you for putting effort in Cal Guns!!! :)

Quick question, when someone clicks on an add, does that go to the "fight fund" or to the server cost?

My bill pay program through my bank sends out my donation automatically on the 26th of each month. It's only $10.00 but I have been doing it for about 6 months. I encourage every CalGunner who uses a bill pay program to do this. It WILL make a difference.

We're approaching the end of the year and I wanted to take a moment to look back at what CGF has done. For some who don't have the context, I wanted to have a place to point them to understand what it is that CGF is. With that, here is CGF's scorecard so far. I've broken it down into the things that the group that would become CGF did before starting the Foundation and then take it on through what we've completed and what we're still up to. Note that there are a few complete cases that are wins that I don't mention because we haven't had a chance to make them public.

When you see people who don't have anything in their sig, encourage them to contribute to the team working very hard to advance our gun rights... and winning.

$10 a month is only $120 a year, but thats about $85 more than I give to the NRA every year. And I have no problem with this discrepency since CalGuns is doing alot more for subjugated California gun owners than the NRA ever has. (thats not so say I won't remain a NRA member, but I'm becoming more disappointed with them all the time.)

A donation is FAN-FREAKIN'-TASTIC!!! They'll need all they can get and then some. But don't forget to make your comittment to a monthly donation! $5, $50, $500--- whatever you can afford. We are at the threshold of some really great things for CA gun owners and believers in the Constitution...... don't let it slip into oblivion for lack of resources. We have the army, so lets make sure they have the weapons!!

If you pitch in, you'll be able to be a part of something. If you don't, then you won't. Oh sure, you'll join in the celebration, but what did you do to help make it happen???

If you don't pitch in your part, and I don't pitch in my part, then the CalGuns team won't have a part to pitch in. :D

CGF will still be fighting the fight and needing our help when you are gainfully employed.

However, numerous opportunities are available for those unable to contribute financially, such as getting involved in our grassroots education campaigns and the C3 Community Chapter (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/forumdisplay.php?f=183) in their area.

I can't speak for everyone, but $10 a month isn't going to put any excessive strain on me. In fact, I'd argue that giving a bit of money to the right people, those who are fighting for causes that I believe in, might even improve my situation. Thats the whole idea. As soon as we can get this sinking ship turned upright, all of us will be far better off. CalGuns isn't the only organization I donate to, I give to several that I know are working to fight the government socialist extremists to improve life for my family in this country.

Besides, even Jesus Christ asked us to tithe, even in the hard times. Doing so will return 10-fold. I believe thats the case here, too, in one way or another.

You know what this thread does?? It separates the men from the boys. It separates those who take this seriously and want to be involved from those who would just prefer to sit in the shadows, let someone else do the dirty work, put nothing in, and then reap the rewards anyway. Just look at the page views vs. the comittments/donations and see that I'm right. Unfortunately, its starting to look like there are FAR more folks who would rather not have to break a sweat, spend a dime, or get off the couch. But when the chuck wagon finally rolls in, they'll wanna be first in line. That doesn't work for me. Belly up and get some skin in the game, or don't. But if you don't, then keep your butt on the couch at chow time.

To those of you making the comittment to contribute, good on you. Its because of US that CalGuns can fight this fight, and when we win, we'll know we were a part of it. And thats just really damn cool.

According to my math, respondants vs. page views on this thread, taking into account several people who have posted more than once, is at a pathetic 3%. 3%? Really? Only 3% of the people who have read this thread believe this cause is worth giving a few bucks to defend? If thats the case and this trend continues, then what the hell are the other 97% of you doing here?

Sorry guys, it just gets me alittle miffed.

;) 3% isn't far off the typical response that we have for RKBA efforts generally.

There's the 100% who enjoy Calguns and the results of CGF efforts. 3% who support financially. 1% who volunteer to help out.

It's pretty consistent math. Trust me, everyone working very, very hard for RKBA knows why and how frustrated you are. Let's keep our chins up and continue to reach out to as many folks as possible.

This is the coalition of the willing... Welcome to the coalition, Erik. PM me when you have time, we should talk.

I'm not sure if this has come on this forum but why can't we change the "Junior" or "Senior" Member to "Donating" Member if a certain financial requirement is met. Say we start with the aforementioned $10/month. As long as we donate a minimum $10/month we will be Donating Members. You could add monthly or annual donations tabs on the gunpal site which makes it possible to pay for an entire year if we want.

Other forums I frequent have special forum areas and different perks.

Just an idea to think about.

Just a note that these contributions are to CGF, a separate and independent organization from CGN.

CGN may or may not offer that option in the future, but these donations are going to the front lines of RKBA litigation and education.

Since my last post yesterday, to this one, 8 more people have donated or comitted to a monthly amount. You guys are what its all about. But in that same time, this page has had 600 more views. Whats 8 of 600? About 1.5%. How sad. I wonder how many of the people who have clicked on this thread, read what its about, and clicked out without making a comittment are the SAME PEOPLE who are b*tching about anti-gun legislation, disrespect for the Constitution, illegal immigrants, welfare abuse, or even socialism? How many posts have you made on this forum complaining about AB962? Or the Brandy Bunch? Or the fact that you can't get a CCW where you live? Or that we're restricted to 10-round mags? Or the CA handgun roster? Or any number of hundreds of other issues, politicians, anit-gun bills, SCOTUS, etc?? Welp, your whining and crying is nothing better than a 3-yr-old tantrum if you aren't willing to do anything about it. But hey, whatever--- every team has benchwarmers.

I have a hard time surrendering money to pay for a god given right. I will have my guns come hell or high water. If the government wants to try to take them from me, then I hope they are prepared to loose many of their agents. I will fight to the death for what I believe is right.

Compared to the blood that has been spilled during the history of this country to guarantee and protect those rights, a fist full of bills is nothing. That's why I have no problem donating money to the cause. I am surrendering my money to no one. Surrender implies it is being taken under duress, and not being given freely.

Hawk81, have many suppressed FAs lying around? No?

We'll get there, but not if you think that freedom comes at the end of a no-knock ATF search warrant.

Donating a small amount every month to advance our rights will go much, much farther than losing you and law enforcement agents in some asinine gun battle.

Exactly. When the ATF comes around DEMANDING money in exchange for your Constitutional rights, then you'll have a point. But until then, won't you please give a few dollars of your own free will to help make sure that never happens? Thanks.

Hows that working out for ya? Even as little as $5-$10.00 a month would make a huge difference if every person who says they would "fight to the death for what I believe is right" would pony up each month to support the fight.

Fight to the death?? Pffffft. Can't even get more than 3% to pitch in a few bucks a month. Where will these so-called "fight-to-the-deathers" be when we really need them? My guess is hunkered in a corner with an iPod and a cream soda.

This war on the modern day battlefield is waged with tools that have a far greater impact than guns and empty bravado, those tools being the expenditure of both money and time.

It's perfectly acceptable to choose one, or both, but choosing neither is not an option.

That being said, you've already volunteered that you won't spend money, I suppose that means you'll now volunteer your time? I'm glad to hear that. In which C3 region are you located? Feel free to PM your local organizer and offer your support. You can find those organizers in the Community Forums

Keep it up guys! Think of it this way...... every dollar sent to CalGuns is another 30 seconds the attorneys can continue to hash out the details of the next court battle. If you send $10, you just bought another 5 minutes worth of one member of a very powerful team working to DEFEND YOUR RIGHTS. At that rate, every hour costs about $120 for each lawyer. There are at least 10 lawyers working on this as we speak. See why they need money??? DONATE NOW!!

(Note: all of the above figures and estimates were blatently fabricated by me out of thin air with no real information whatsoever to back any of it up in a shameless attempt to convince you to donate more money. I hope it works.)

This is a great idea. I check Calguns daily and have bought several guns here from fellow Calgunners. I also use Calguns to sell stuff. I use this site a lot. And the Calguns Foundation has really stepped up for me. In the past, I have donated $100 per case that the Calguns Foundation filed, such as Sykes or Pena. But that's not enough. These cases aren't filed left and right. They're planned and don't come around frequently enough because the cases take so long to go through the pipeline.

I don't know how to do the $10 per month thing and I'm too lazy to figure it out. So I just donated $120 and will try to remember to donate $120 per year. Confirmation number: 3WJ48514UH4783100

I actually had to use the search to find this thread. There should be more activity, more donations, who else is going to look out for our rights if not CalGuns?

Come on everyone dig deep, you are really donating to yourself if you think about it. Even just $10 can make a difference. If you simply can't afford to donate, these are tough times at the moment, then give this thread a bump to remind everyone to donate.

My employer wants us to donate to United Way every year. I chose Calguns :) Surprisingly, my department manager and the assistant manager were totally cool with it. My contributions should have started January 1st, 10.00 a pay check every two weeks. I need to some how verify my money is going to Calguns. I'm a little worried that United Way may have diverted my donations to something else.

223Junkie

Don't trust UW. It is unlawfull for the boss to lean on you to donate. Donate directly. Besides UW takes a huge chunk for 'administrative costs'. Tell managment you would rather avoid the administrative costs and donate directly.

This should go both ways. I have a position to fill and have been trying to fill it with a Calgunner. The pay is not great but I want to give fellow Cal Gunners a shot if they want it. "We must hang together or we will certainly hang separately." (Ben Franklin).

If I get a job soon I will donate what I can when I can...but right now I am broke beyond broke. :(

Maybe Calguns could set up a forum to show what has been done, what is in the hopper so to speak, and what they intend to do. With a tight economy and all sorts of places asking for donations it might be critical to show the track record and what the goals are in the future in specific terms and or lawsuits. Just a suggestion. In hte motorcycle world several rights organizations might go under this year simply because they have used the simple pitch of give us your money and trust us to do the right thing and that rings of a politician's promise. People are wary where they spend their dollars. Someone said earlier over six hundred viewed but only 24 contributed. Maybe calguns needs to show what it has done and will be doing?

Paypal is like swimming against the current. They fund many Anti Gun groups. GunPal on the other hand is owned by Ben Cannon (The Director of CGN) and you are free to use it for whatever you want, and yes you can pay with your debit card. Its also safer then PayPal, GunPal is set up like a bank! (BUT PLEASE DON'T GET BEN STARTED ON HOW SAFE IT IS, THE GUY WILL GO ON FOR HOURS!) ;)

I've slacked off my donation for a couple of months (just plain forgot to send a check) so now I'll need to double-up. Donation coming with my next paycheck.

Oh and BTW, its still rather disgusting to see so few donations being made especially in light of all thats happening recently in the 2A fight. Don't be a mooching worm sucking off the backs of everyone else's efforts. We ALL stand to benefit from these efforts, so don't be a sideliner. Be a part of the fight and pitch in.

You can set up a recurring donation to CGF in your online bill pay. No need to remember to send it, just have to remember to add it to your check register unless you are using personal finance software.

Not everyone is public about their charitable giving so I'm sure that donations are more than you know, but far less than they should be.

People, talk to your bank. Almost every one can set up an automatic deduction for you. I don't even have to think about it anymore. I pay so many bills every month I never even notice an extra 20 bucks are gone.

Remember what we are buying:

Sykes v. McGinness
Pena v. Cid
Nordyke

Not to mention all the recent Calgunners who have been assisted by the CGF.

I've been meaning to set up a monthly contribution to CGF through my GPal account for some time now and just gave it a try... but to no avail. I'm not even sure it's possible to set up a recurring payment at this point.

Does anyone know how to set up their GPal account to make monthly payments? And what is the email addy for CGF to send the payment to? Clicking on the "Donate" buttons for CGF does not show the recipients email addy.

PLEASE HELP ME GIVE YOU MONEY, LOL!

Yep, but billpay is a historically reliable way of sending in donations. When the bank sends the check it's debited from your account.

Try donate@calgunsfoundation.org.

Thank you for the email address to use for sending donations and BTT for this thread. Just started my $20/month contributions to CGF instead of larger donations once or twice a year. Much easier to handle this way. Thank you CGF for all you do for the firearms owners in CA.

Everyone who is not contributing please consider making a small monthly donation ($10+). For the cost of a couple of drinks, 3 beers, 4 coffees, etc., you can do something to help the cause, YOUR cause.

This is NOT PBS, which is also easy to NOT to contribute to, CGF fights for YOUR rights to own, carry, and use YOUR firearms in CA. They are the best resource that we have had in a very long time and deserve all the support we can provide.

OK, off my soapbox now.
