View Full Version : 7.62mm NATO plastic training ammo

I got a sample German plastic 7.62mm training round in with an ammo order recently. I fired the round in my FAL and it went 'bang' with authority but I didn't have a target set up so I didn't see how it did. The brag sheet that came with the round said that they are dangerous to 300 meters and accurate at 100 meters. Anyone shoot any of this stuff at a target? It will not function a semi auto but at $169 for 1,000 rounds if it works it would be worth getting some for plinking.

Check with your local indoor range and see if they will let you use it. If so it would be priceless to be able to use your FAL indoors.

I use it in my FR8. Not real accurate at 100yds, but then again, I'm shooting with iron sights and can barely see the target at 100yds. At 25yds, it seems to be plenty accurate. Best thing about it is that there's NO recoil.
One problem I've had is that my FR8 doesn't feed these well if I fill the magazine. The plastic cases seem to get hung up. If I only load four rounds, there's no problem feeding.

Does it have enough power to cycle the action in a FAL?

no it will not function the action.
