**** SOLD, Thanks All!****

FS - Mare’s Leg Pistol in 44-40, Brand New

I am offering a brand new Mare’s Leg pistol from JB Customs chambered in 44-40 (44 WCF) with the Josh Randall-style holster on a cartridge belt. This gun has never been fired and has an incredibly smooth Model 92 action. Once you handle this pistol I think you will find that it is a serious shootin’ piece and is no toy.

I will include a six-pack of 44-40 snap-caps and a box of MagTech 44-40 Cowboy loads (225 grain bullets). Owners manual is included also.

Asking price is $1550, shipping will vary on location of buyer.

I am located in Northern California so I can meet you at your local gun shop for a Private Party Transfer (PPT). Otherwise we will be shipping to your favorite FFL holder. If you live in Southern California we can talk about how we can make a PPT exchange.

Send me a private message if you are interested.

Here are photos of the pistol and the holster:

The holster and belt runs $300-$400 depending on the size etc. Someone is going to get their money's worth since this is not on the "approved" list. Talk about an open carry piece. This one will get attention in any coffee shop and drive the Brady campaign nuts.

I hate this. I just saved up a grand for a hardly used DE and something like this comes along. Sell it quick please. The gun is bad enough but it comes with holster and belt. someone one has to give into a whim and buy this and save the rest of us from torment.

the one holster I saw was a full holster with a open front that allowed the mare's leg to snap out like the one seen on the JB custom site.

yeah! Besides it was "wanted: Dead or Alive." Chuck Conners used a carbine rifle in the rifleman not a mare's leg.

This such a cool gun!!

What size is the belt? Do you have the original box?

The belt is a size 34. I figured I would just cut down a simple 2 1/2" belt to bridge the gap where the belt didn't fit around me. :cool2:

I do not have the original box. They come in the simplest of cardboard boxes with no graphics or lettering on them. I do have the owner's manual.

I have added a photo of the holster and belt to the original listing. The JB holster is built as you describe, just as the holster on the TV show was built.

The Mare's Leg in Wanted: Dead or Alive that Steve used was about 6" Inches shorter than the JB Custom.

Of course, You could always have a Gunsmith trim 4" inches off the barrel and 2" inches off the stock... Then the overall length would be around 18" inches..

PS sac-gunslinger . Do you have the ATF Letter of approval that they mention it comes with on the jbcustom. com website?

I forgot he had .45-70's in his belt loops... if they were supposed to be in that rifle, wouldn't it have had a 2+1 capacity?

Great pistol / package for sale. PM Sent.

I did not get a copy of the letter but you can download one from the JB Customs website or e-mail Jim Buchanan for one.

I think there were a couple of guns used in the filming of the series. There were scenes in which the gun changed from shot to shot.

There were comical sequences of McQueen using the gun (along with the physical skill he had in doing things such as "twirling" the beast). The funniest was one scene where it showed him reach across his chest and "fan" the hammer gunfighter-style.

They did not have the technology of today's shows to fake things so what they did was pretty good considering. I remember every little boy wanting a a toy Mare's Leg and to be Steve McQueen. Let bump this back to the top and get it sold and on it's way to another good home.

Just wondering does that need to be DROS'ed as a single shot pistol?

Just wondering does that need to be DROS'ed as a single shot pistol?

it appears that it is already in the state as a pistol, and can be PPTed as a non-rostered multi-shot handgun. Basically, single-shot roster-exemption is only needed to get it to the first owner in state, after that it doesn't need to stay single-shot.

Tintreach
03-11-2010, 10:14 PM
I thought that if it was lever action it was exempt? Can even be magazine fed.

ke6guj
03-11-2010, 10:21 PM
there is no lever-action exemption to the roster. There is a lever-action exemption to the large-capacity magazine ban.

anyways, free bump for the OP.

No, it came in as a six shot pistol.
