Romanian PSL in AK configuration with a 16.5" barrel. Takes standard AK furniture.

US parts: Receiver, hammer, trigger/disconnector, all furniture, gas piston. Barrel is Romanian, but modified.
"The barrels on our AK-54R rifles have been shortened to 16.5" (the production length) and re-profiled via CNC turning center = less barrel whip, and improved bore concentricity. Bayonet lugs are intact and at the correct length, BTW."
Receiver is manufactured by NoDak Spud.

Waffen Werks has just recently started up. Rifles are shipping now.

Any idea on price?
This is not to be considered an AK Forum Special, per se, but we are offering them here, first, at $799.
No idea if that's the general pricing, or only to AKForum members. If that is only for AKForum members, I can't imagine the general pricing being too much higher. E-mail sales and see what they say?

^^

Anyway, I really like the idea of this for the cost of ammo. As another member posted, a Saiga in .308 would also be cool but those converted have been around for a while. These just have a certain cool factor. I wonder if your threw on a POSP how much the accuracy would suffer compared to rifles with the original barrel length. -Ben

I sent Anthony in sale's an email regarding availability of a California model and here is his response.

Will you be selling these to California resident’s in a California legal configuration and if so what is the price and availability?

Thank You.

Ruben,

Thanks, much, for the interest in our products. I regret to inform you that we currently don't have plans for a California configuration (I think you're only the third person who has asked about such, so far). I'll have to look into it, and see what would be required to accomplish that, because we certainly don't wish to exclude Cali, if it proves to be reasonably practicable to make and offer a Cali-legal version.

Sincerely,

Anthony S. Taylor
Director - Marketing and Commercial Sales

I responded with what it would take for a Cal legal Configuration and sent him the link to Calguns and the AW ID Chart. So now it's time for all of you to send him a request for a CA Legal rifle, hurry let's show him that we are many!

I'll definitely send an email about this as it would be easy to make that thing CA compliant! I was really looking at a .308 Saiga, but man, that stuff is pricey! I consider 7.62x54R ammo to be fairly cheap in comparison as I'm pretty sure you can get it for .20 a round or less in bulk.

Above all else, that thing just looks wicked :43:

We have not got any info on the final price yet but it will be higher than $799 , that was a limted time intraductory price they were offering on a small number of rifles. We are working directly with Waffen Works and our price will match theirs plus the CA legal modifications.

just got mine in 10 day waiting to join the psl and psl paratroop. will give a review as soon as i can get a chance to get to blm land to shoot it.

for those following the "issues" with these rifles, WW has done well to resolve and take care of these people. got mine for less than retail and it was unused and came with 4 mags and case and a tabuk hider.

WW is selling the ak54r parts kits for $450. ready to build with receiver of your choice (from them it's $100 for a NDS receiver and rivets). They also have 8 blemish Ak54r's for $650. Blemish is only some minor grind marks at the back of the receiver, supposedly. Will probably need to use a middle man since they don't directly sell to CA. might need to be a theakforum.net member to get the deal though.

Every gun manufactor will have some issues with their first guns. How they resolve such issues is a defining point. So far I've been impressed with WW response.

a good friend of mine who is just getting into the sport seems to have his heart set on one of these bad boys.
When we take him to the range he usually shoots one of our AKs or Mosins, so when I told him he could combine the two he became obsessed!

If he does pick one up anytime soon I will do a proxy range report for it.

Im really hoping he does because he is leaving the country in 3 months and will be gone the better of a year and asked me if I would be willing to babysit it for him, as his family refuses to have firearms in their house (despite his father being retired LEO)

Purchased it trough Atlantic Firearms recently. Both companies are the best companies I've dealt with, had a small problem, Waffen Werks took care of it really fast. Nice people and excellent top of the line product.
Very professionally made, inside & out.

Overall I'm very satisfied with the rifle, so much so that I would buy another if I could. Well worth the money and then some.

Range reports, pleeeeeease!!!

edward
09-06-2010, 11:17 AM
Alright fine, range report.

I shot mine about 2 weeks ago on leave.

Is it accurate? At about 150 yards with the stock sights, I could hit just about anything using the copper washed russian spam can ammo.

I wasn't shooting at paper, so I can't give an MOA report, since we had no target stands, or staple guns, or targets or any of that. We usually just shoot at bottles and pieces of debris about 12" or so in size.

Reliable? Not a single stoppage or FTF/FTE. 2 rounds out of 200 were duds, and they looked like they had good primer strikes, so I'll chalk that up to the ammo instead of the gun.

Everything is pretty tight and well fitting, it is definitely a quality build where WW came in with their parts.

Recoil, not as bad as you think - but its not light either. The PSL brake gives you a punched in the face feeling, and the small surface area of the butt plate of those kvar buttstocks transfers a sharp jab into your shoulder pocket.

Which brings me to another point on the kvar buttstock. I do not think they were meant for a gun chambered in 54r. I say this because the screw holding my buttstock to the rear mounting tang of the receiver sheared off, and the buttstock simply fell out when I was done firing and unshouldered the rifle.
Its fine with me, since I was going to replace the plum furniture with black furniture anyway, but I think I'll now have to look for furniture from someone besides kvar.

The gun gets 8/10 for now. When I ditch that psl brake and put a primary weapons FSC 30 on there, it'll probably get 9/10.
The finish is nice, but its not AS nice as this molyresin finish I got on an AK 103 from henderson defense. It seems somewhat abrasive (scratchy) in spots, whereas the HDI ak 103 I have is perfectly smooth throughout. Might send it to HDI just to get the finish redone one day. When I do that, it'll be 10/10.

Any more questions?

Cato
