Steyr,

You might wanna think twice about that Galil 308. There's tens of thousands in a warehouse in Isreal. Seem to have some defect issue - receiver cracking, etc. - can't rememeber exact details.

As for me, when AWB goes down:
- an AK or two (specifically, Hungarian SA85M and/or an Arsenal SLR)
- HK SP89
- semiauto clone of S&W MK76
- Sterling 9mm semiauto carbine

Sure I can have OLLs, but with 9 reg'd AWs already I'll wait til things are unneutered before moving on...

Thanks Bill, yea I read that as well on the milled receivers. I would put an AK buffer from BlackJack or Buffertech, read it seems to take are of the issue of the 7.62x51 round kicking the receiver to hell after a few thousand rounds..

Regarding the FEG SA85M, I have one in Cali legal format, best stamped receiver AK ever made. No pistol grip. It has a filled thumb hole stock...I would love to put a folding stock and PG someday..

Like its been said previously, a repeal of CA's AW ban does nothing to the NFA. I'd think you're UZI would have to be of the grandfathered variety

I realized there are a couple I'd buy I can't have a clone of (like SIG550/1, AR-180, Calico and Daewoos)

But the thing I'd be most likely to push hard and buy would be 50+ yr old semi-autos to make into SBRs. Like M1 carbines, thompsons, and SKS modded for detachable mags.

tiger222
03-05-2010, 3:18 PM
I'd like get an Howa AR-180, Colt SP1, HK PSG1, FN FNC, Daewoo K2, SIG550-2SP, Steyr AUG.

Affording is another issue :) , if only one, and had to pay for it, I'd probably get the FNC or AR180

What's intertesting is the the technology of the current rifles far surpases all my rifles on the list, so it would be a nostalgia thing...

Not to speak for Aplinker, but for me, the recent "clones" are not the same guns because part of wanting to own them is wanting to own the original gun from the original manufacturer in its original configuration.

That's why I've had twenty M1As and sold all of them since the ban -- without the long flash suppressor and bayonet lug, they aint M-1As...

I'd convert my AR-15 and get some 30 round mags. Then when I get bored, sell it an get an affordable Uzi clone.

I guess you're definition of clone is different than mine, each to his own brother

Because they are not clones, they're different rifles. Different stock, style of magazine release, different mags, safety and whatnot looks different, among many other things.

It is a variant, yes. Not exactly a clone though.

If CA's AW ban gets overturned I'll just build my AR with all the evil features i can and use brand new hi-caps with standard mag release buttons. Probably buy an MP5 too and my AK (both semi until the NFA goes away).

For some reason that actually makes me really sad. These asanine laws have actually made us forget where we put our "freedom" (insofar as a BB-free AR represents freedom, which right now for me in CA it does). I actually don't know where mine is either :(

^^Me too!!!:D The Barrett M-82A1 is IMO the ultimate projection of small arms firepower in civilian hands short of class 3 weapons and DD's. I got just about all the AW's I wanted as I scooped them up at silly low prices before the '89 and 2000 bans in place. I never got around to picking up the M-82 because if it's steep price tag but once the AW and 50BMG bans fall in Commiefornia, that baby is mine!:43:

I got tired of registering all my rifles after the 89 ban so I sent lots of them out of state before 2000 to wait for better times. Included were both my M-76 (223, fixed and folder) and my M-82 (223 bullpup). I only have my M-78 (308, milled, heavy barrel) here in Commiefornia because it had to be registered in 89.

I'll try to take one of my M-78 later.

I realized there are a couple I'd buy I can't have a clone of (like SIG550/1, AR-180, Calico and Daewoos)

You can have a SIG 550 clone right now that ought to qualify as an OLL:

Colorado Gun Sales -- SIG 550 parts kits and complete rifles. (https://www.cogunsales.com/index.php?keyword=550&Search=Search&Itemid=1&option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse)

If you already have a SIG 556, it makes the job even easier with their Swiss-made conversion kit:

https://www.cogunsales.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/9c6b7718c4987e651296c229b0f96678.jpg

They said that they want $4000 for a complete 'CGS-550' rifle, though it's not advertised on the website.

My first thought was to buy a mess of 20 round mags but thinking about this a little more, I realized as a target shooter I never load more than 8 rounds at a time. I know that's not what the average guy does but I shoot my AR mostly one round at a time as a single shot.

I'd buy an ordinary, every day, un-neutered, off-the-shelf AR -- FOR MY DAUGHTER!!!

Any one she wants.

Good point, I will buy an AR and AK for both my kids.

I almost got one in the 80's, however 7.5 x 55 GP11 was impossible to get so I passed. The same reason I passed on a Russian SVD around the same tine, ammo was hard to find.

Who knew that in 2010, 7.5x55 and 7.62x54r would be fairly common?

Don't think I would getting much, but there would be a frenzy of bullet button removals and pistol grips added to a bunch of AKs as well as the removal of a bunch of grip fins. then there would be some magazine purchases...

I'd re-stock my pistol mags. With a G20 in a free state, I'd get at least 12 15-round mags and add Arredondo +5 bases to them all. Now I'm loaded with 20 or 21 rounds of 10mmAuto per mag. With a belt of 12 mags + loaded gun that's 261 rounds of zombie asplodin' power.

Next I'd redo all my AR-15 mags. Everything would be set up for coupled p-mag 30-rounders. Bam x 240 easy!!

Then the lr308 needs stacks and stacks of pmag 20-rounders coupled together. Big BAM x 160 ouch!!!

It's not my style and in CA it's a problem but a suppressed glock 9mm would come to mind in a free state.

Unfortunately its a DD, and thus not legal once the AWB is repealed.

Too bad, as I'd love to pick up a Lahti 20mm rifle.

An AK with the S style folding stock. Tons of 30 round mags and maybe a drum or 2.

Put the real mag release back on the AR. Tons of 30 rounders.

Colt Ar-15 full length, drop several thousand into it.

An L85 would be cool.

You can get the KIND of rifles available in free states, but you cannot get NAMED AWs even if they are neutered. You can get an AR-10 on a Noveske lower and BB it, but you cannot get an Armalite AR-10.

Agreed to the named stuff, but for a lot of folks a name is exactly that. I have no intentions of replacing any of my lowers, or purchasing other brands just because they have a bigger name. If they were considerably better quality and slightly more in price I could see doing that.

I get that. It's the principle. The state told me I could not buy THAT name. I hate that. I love DS arms but I've had a few, for example, and they are not the same as the FN-FAL I got back in 1980.

wow ive been waiting for this thread....if the AW ban was lifted i would go nuts..

first up LWRCI PSD in 6.8

I notice a lot of SBR and silencers on this list -- if the CA AW ban was lifted, those would still be controlled items, right -- I mean, we couldn't get them BEFORE the ban without Fed licensing. I don't think lifting the ban would mean "everything's legal": because even in Heller the supremes said you can still have limits, you just can't ban.

03-11-2010, 1:03 PM
You mean I can't get silencers, full-autos, rocket launchers and howitzers?!?! Forget it then!

All I would probably do is get the normal capacity mags for my M1A, CZ-75b, Beretta 92fs, maybe spring for an actual AK with 30-rounders. Heck, if not for the AWB in the first place, I would probably never have bought an SKS, M1A, or 1911. Among the reasons I bought those is that I really hate bastardized versions of guns like the FAL I once owned with the fixed mag
