I want to buy my first 1911. I dont have a whole lot of money to spend, $500-600 is my budget. After doing some searching, I am looking into 2 options.

Rock Island Armory - Shipped after FFL fees = $459

Para Ord GI Expert - After FFL fees, taxes = $590

I will be using it mostly to punch paper, but might end up carrying it once in a while.

I am open to other brands/options, suggestions welcome and appreciated....

The Rock Island 1911's are on sale at Turners this week; not the absolute lowest prices but convenient:

Unless you're dead-set on having a GI, I'd spring for the Tactical.

I love mine, very accurate and was a great 1st 1911. The only issue I've had with mine is the slide stop not liking a lot of magazines. Replaced it with a Wilson extended slide stop and now it will shoot just about anything out of any magazine.

I've had three Para's and all of them were great shooters. Still have one left, a P13-45 and it is a shooter all the way down range. I have no experience with the Rock Island pistols. Good luck.

$379 for a 1911???? Damn that seems like good deal. It might not be an operator but damn good price. Where's sarco?

I have the RIA Tactical as well and for the money it is a far better value than the standard GI model. Depending on what part of Nor Cal you are in you're welcome to try mine out to see for yourself if the extra $$ is worth it to you.

I got mine from CenterFire Systems a couple of years ago when the tactical was... hold yourself!
$359.99 :eek::eek::eek:

I have a colt combat commander. It is shorter than the standard. It does not have great sites or extended beaver tail. If I were to buy one of the Rock Island's, it would have to be the tactical. One time hitting the web beween your thumb and forefinger and you'll wish you had.

Amen and that is exactly why I never shoot my Nickle 70 series Combat Commander.

Spend the little extra and get the tactical. It has all the bells and whistles that you would probably update a GI with in the future.

As far I know since i have been checking the roster daily the Para gi series isn't available here. I might just be over looking the model number. I wanted one to start a 1911 project on. If anybody knows there CA legal pm please and tell me where ya got it and for how much. Thanks

Cant give feedback on the Para but I must admit my RIA Tactical is an excellent buy! Very solid entry level 1911 IMO. Spend the extra $100 and upgrade to a Tactical you wont regret it!
