Hey everyone im pretty new to the forum, been lurking for a while, but anyways i just bought my first handgun, and this 10 day wait is killing me... Im on day 3, and i cant wait to take the gun to the range and try it out. So any advice on how to cope with these 7 days of anticipation.

Sweet, that's a good lookin' 1911. Doesn't matter how much you paid, as long as you enjoy it :D.

Thats exactly how I feel right now. I have 5 days to go and there isn't any .45 ammunition to buy and I can't get a hold of any Ballistol at my local Big 5.

I am currently waiting for 4 firearms. :( I at least picked up one yesterday. I am not rich, I just sold some guns to finance others. I need a more well rounded collection and to start stressing quality over quantity.

Sorry but, I was just curious to see how the seller described this on Gun Broker. I searched and could not find it. Odd. What is the item number on GB. Again, just curious.

You got one hell of a deal. You have a VERY, I mean a REAL VERY SPECIAL pistol that I wish I had. It was tricked out by the none other "Bob Chow." He passed on in 2003. For years I admired his work. In 1948 he was in the U.S Olympic Pistol Shooting Team. He also set 37 world pistol records. Then for years he had his own gun shop in San Francisco. He was a Master Gunsmith. If you are ever in Elko, Nevada you got to stop by at The Nevada Museum. There are about 65 rare pieces of his work. CONGRADULATIONS!!! THE WAIT WILL BE WORTH IT.

Well from what the previous owner told me, the guy he got the gun off said it was worked on by Chow in 1956. I did some research on him but there wasnt much info i could find.

He was saying that he sold other Chow guns before, and that they were usually marked, or had written proof that he worked on them. While this one doesnt have anything other than word of mouth.

Basically i got it because i liked the mods, and the looks of it... figured if it had been modified people were using it as a shooter, which is what i plan for it. still cant believe the guns gonna be a hundred years old in 3 years... sorta wish it came with all the original parts too, but im a really poor student now so i aint complaining.

Perhaps if you want to spend some time on the serial number and question the person you bought it from, you may be lucky and have a paper trail. Use your search engine with name Bob Chow. You may have something worth more than what you had spent. It will take time but, it may be rewarding. Good luck my friend. BTW-That pistol is set for target compotition

Thanks, yeah i'll probably look into it. I know the history of all my firearms, so it feels kinda weird that i dont really know much about the first one ive bought.

Yeah i searched Bob Chow and saw a few guns that he worked on. i really liked the look of the front sights he used. i think thats one of the features i really liked on this gun. I couldnt find much info on him though, and kept finding links to airsoft guns.

sorta back to the topic, i find that keeping really busy makes me forget about the wait. im just dreading monday when i have alot of free time... but other than that it feels like the 10th is gonna be here in no time.

Time kinda drags on when you know something good is comeing your way. If you are planning on takeing it to the range, give us all a report if you think of it. I bet you won't be able to sleep the day before your pick-up date. At least that is how I would be. Tick...tock...tick...tock...oh boy!!

The 10-day wait used to drive me crazy, then I waited 6 months for a CMP Garand...the CA wait doesn't seem as bad anymore. It also helps if you've already got a bunch of guns, that way you can fondle the others while you wait for the new arrival.

Jeez why did you have to wait 6 months for a rifle?

but yeah i think im gonna remain broke for a while now that ive got into buying guns... i just saw a ruger mkII that i wanna buy for $250, and i havent even gotten hold of my 1911 yet.

im wondering though, if i got my 1911 through a ppt how long do i have to wait till i can purchase another firearm?

The wait on CMP rifles is pretty variable. In the past people have been known to wait for 12+ months on occasion.

If you bought the 1911 via a PPT (a PPT is a private party transfer for which both seller and buyer are physically present in the store) then you are not subject to the 1-handgun-per-30-days restriction. If you had the gun shipped to the store it is considered a dealer transfer and not a PPT.

then i guess im waiting another month before i purchase again :/

god i feel this way waiting only 10 days, couldnt imagine waiting a year or more...

Watch videos, reviews about your gun, research prices for magazines, buy/research ammo, accessories. But maybe you only want to spend money on stuff after you shoot it and decide it's a keeper.
Research your next gun, find ways to squeeze money out of things to get more gun-money. Sell things, collect old debts, etc. Make, offer trades for things you'r spend money on. Buy gun magazines and books and read them. You should go into this armed with info so if this gun is not your piece of pie, then you can move on to another gun. And decide to keep it or sell it. Buy a cash and carry rifle, so you can shoot it.
Buy shooting glasses, ear protection, etc. Go to gunshops and check out other guns. Once you get your gun-appetite satiated, it will be better unless your one of the minority that are hopeless. :)
