I'm looking at this ammo wondering why it is relatively cheap:

It's slightly cheaper than the Winchester FMJ:

I just want range ammo, and typically only buy JHP. Is the "Jacketed Soft Point" okay for range use in places that don't allow lead bullets?

Maybe because it's only 95 grains?

...and it won't likely feed in your pistol

I shot 100rds through my Sig P226 without any problem. But this stuff is dirty!!

I bought 1000 rnds of the fed JSP in 9mm. It is accurate and I have had 0 feeding issues with it in my SP-01 (350 rounds thus far). I would only use it at the range not as a SD load.

I am sure that some picky guns might not like it but I have had good experiences with it. YMMV

I was thinking about buying some but I was reading that it may not feed in my pistols. Good to hear its functioned flawlessly so far. I might grab a case.

FWIW ( which probably isn't much :D ) but isn't/wasn't the Federal 95gr JSP the issued load for Illinois State troopers? Maybe this is part of a contract overrun?

There is a thread on the 95 gr 9mm here: http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=24646

It seems that maybe both illinois l.e. and LAPD both used it at one point (according to some posters on the above thread.)

Like hitteam said, they are dirty rounds but they do not seem much dirtier than RMs 9mm reloads which I have had a couple (2/500ish) FTE in the SP - 01.

Very interesting, thanks. I'm new to 9mm (I'm used to .40), so the 95 gr didn't really ring any bells.

Makes sense that it would be inexpensive if that thread is accurate.

I may try one case. Can't be any dirtier than the "forest fire" cloud of smoke that I got from a batch of UMC .40!

That would be my guess, all the Federal ammo comes in bright colorful packages, only reason for the plain white is that they're pre-sold and thus not trying to attract customers.

i suggest reading this thread. it has more reviews about bvac which makes reloads for rmammo.
