"Starbucks is seen as a responsible corporation and they're seen as a very progressive corporation, and this policy is very much in keeping with that," said John Pierce, co-founder of OpenCarry.org. "If you're going to support individual rights, you have to support them all. I applaud them, and I've gone out of my way personally to let every manager of every Starbucks I pass know that."

Ralph Fascitelli of Washington Ceasefire, an advocacy group that seeks to reduce gun violence, said allowing guns in coffeehouses robs residents of "societal sanctuaries." "People go to Starbucks for an escape, just so they can get peace," Fascitelli said. "But people walk in with open-carry guns and it destroys the tranquility."

Biggest bunch of BS I've read all day!

I open carry all the time in San Francisco. Have I ever taken my gun out of its holster? No. Will I ever? Probably not. Then why do I do it?

1. I NEVER get harassed by the homeless. Ever.
2. I can fill my tank up at a SOMA gas station and not have to argue with a crazy trying to wash my windows. All I have to do is point to my right hip.
3. People are always very polite to me when I'm waiting for my latte.

That bit or the whole article?:p
The San Francisco Chronicle tends to emphasize the negatives, but at least in that article they gave both web sites at the bottom, Brady and Open Carry.
This article shows what I am talking about a bit better.

I try to comment on those articles and suggest that rather than be afraid go up to them and have a conversation, you might be pleasantly surprised.
I haven't been here long, but I have seen a few post on calguns that have made me change how I talk about the whole "gun thing", tone down attitude, come across friendly.
Biggest bunch of BS I've read all day!

First time something bad happens, one of the anti-gun people will cry foul when someone who's carrying doesn't protect them.
