I saw a couple of sks's at one of my local gun shops in socal. 2 different sks's. One wrapped in a Monte Carlo stock and looked pretty clean, the other with a wood stock with some rust on the bolt carrier. Didn't check the bore or match serial numbers on either. Both identified as Norincos.

Both of them were listed at $479.00. What!

Aside from seeing them much cheaper on Gunsamerica and gunbroker, are these guns still worth the price they are commanding?

Lookin at other carbines (Kel tec su16) and aks/ars for not much more does the sks still hold its value?

Are the only benefits the bayo and the collector potential.

Help talk me out of one. Yes I still want one and no I wont buy one of the ones I saw at the local shop.

You can get a Russian cash and carry by looking here in the for sale section.....just keep your eyes peeled.

Probably in the 400 dollar range.

let me ask you this. why do you want one? i got one to share ammo with my saiga back when saigas had crazy price tags, now that the crazyness has calmed down i wish i would of just waited and gotten another saiga. BUT that bayo is still sweet ;)

$479 is too much IMO. i got my yugo for $350 with original wood stock and all matching numbers. if your in the riverside area bright spot pawn and centerfire had some for around $400. i still wish i wpuld have bought one five years ago when they were going for less than $75.

If you look hard you find them for a pretty good price. I found a Yugo for 275, but that was a little while ago.

If you are patient you can snag a Norinco for around $200 off GunBroker.

I had no idea they were costing that much. I bought mine for 200 and this was only like 3 years ago.

The Russian with all matching has been averaging between 400.00 and 500.00 depending on the condition, from what I've seen, other makers can be bought much less with some patience.

I think the buy frenzy is finally starting to wind down, prices are slowly coming back to the reasonable. Throw some offers against the wall and see what sticks.

+1 for too much.

pushing $500 is starting to land you in CMP garand territory (without all the hoops of fire, of course) which IMO is a MUCH better gun if you are looking for a vintage service rifle.

realistically you should be able to find one for less than $400 if you look hard enough. im pretty much ruined on SKS's considering i purchased mine for $179. i dont think i could bring myself to spend $400 unless it was strictly a collector piece, and i'm not at the point of buying guns for the sake of collecting!

Dang!
I remember when I purchased my Russian with matching #'s for $120 and a box of wolf ammo was $3.50. And of course, I just didn't buy one box...

Yes, but we can say the same thing for AR's AKs, XDs, ect... You can still buy some of these used at decent prices, but buying from an FFL? I am amazed at the price increases over the last five years or so.

New arsenalled SKSs, Tula and Ishevsk factories, ten to a crate, $29.95 each, in matching two-color cardboard cases. Soft-steel-core ammo at $20 per Jerry-can, as much as you could carry. I spent over $1600 and threw out my back carrying stuff to the truck. I still have one Tula gun, with the two cross-bolt stock, and I have nearly all of that ammo. If I shop really well, I might find an Ishevsk or Tula roll-mark, and that's worth $400 to me. I wouldn't pay over $200 for ANY Norinco. And satellite guns are a pig-in-a-poke.

Around 300 bucks is the going rate. Chinese SKS's are the cheapest.
I always watch the Russian ones, but dont have the spare cash anymore to pick one up. I see them for around 450 to 500 bucks and they dont sell right away, I see them sit for a while. sometimes a long while.
If you want one, cruise the for sale section and you will find one eventually.

Wish they were cheaper. I am thinking of getting one, but at the average going price of $330 plus DROS/PTT, I think I would rather get a Saiga fir $380 or so.

$200-500 bucks depending on what it is and how nice it is... And how does it go? They are the rifle that saved California...? Didn't Bill Weise say that?

I just bought a M59 Yugo a couple weeks ago off here for 400 OTD! That included crap load of stripper clips around 250, 75 rounds of ammo and transfer fee. Just keep looking on here and you will find one.
