First time shooting a handgun in 4 years. I was shooting my new 229 in .357sig at 50 yards. It was a blast!

click on thumb to really see how I did

Thanks  My buddy's grouping was like someone was shooting shotty at 25. He was at 25. I love the indoor range at San Leandro (first time ever at a indoor range).

Pretty darn good. How do you like the .357 SIG round?

Love it. Recoil is good, matter of fact followups were easy. I think it will serve very well in HD. Muzzle flash was a orange. I got looks when I first let it off. I only had 50 rounds so I only used one target.

Offhand. being nearsighted with glasses. I think my glasses give me real life hax on aiming XD.

50 yards offhand, not too shabby!! Half the shooters out at my local range have larger groups at 15 yards.

Thats really good... My 15 yard group from Friday with my Commander .45 kinda looks like that. Of course it's me, not the gun...

That is good shooting. Some folks can't even hit paper at 15 yards.

I don't understand why anyone would be shooting a pistol at 50 yards. That is WAY BEYOND the effective radius of a pistol. I doesn't make any sense to me. Just sayin':D

I just have to say that it is a Sig and .357sig makes it special.:D

It's within the effective range of the round, but might be beyond the effective range for bullseye shots for the sight radius.

I've taken a pistol back farther than that for a friendly competition on a small steel target, but wouldn't engage at that distance unless the target was alone and static with a good backstop.

ETA: OP, good shooting for that length barrel/sight radius at that range.

Good shooting. My 10MM 25 yard target hits (6" groups off hand) aren't much better than your 50 yards. I think shooters should try longer distances than what I see at the indoor range. I see people shooting 10 to 15 feet all day long. How boring is that? If you can shoot at 25+ yards and be reasonably accurate, you bet you can defend yourself at a closer distance.

This story was taken out of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairchild_Air_Force_Base

"A significant event at Fairchild occurred on June 20, 1994 when Dean Mellberg, an ex-Air Force member entered the base hospital and shot and killed five people and wounded many others. Mellberg had been discharged after failing psychological evaluations by base psychologists Maj. Thomas Brigham and Captain Alan London. At the time of the shooting, Fairchild's hospital was an ungated facility. The gunman, armed with a Chinese-made MAK-90, an AK-47 clone [1] entered the office of Brigham and London and killed both men. Mellberg continued to move through the hospital, injuring and killing several people, including 8-year-old Christin McCarron. The gunman then walked out of the building into the parking lot, where after killing Anita Linder, was confronted by Security Policeman, Senior Airman Andy Brown. From approximately 70 yards away, Brown ordered Mellberg to drop his weapon. After Mellberg refused, from a kneeling position Brown fired four shots from his 9mm pistol, two rounds hitting the perpetrator in the head and shoulder, killing him[2]. After an investigation it was concluded that Airman Brown was justified in his actions, saving countless lives, and was awarded the Airman's Medal by President Clinton."

A handgun wouldn't be my first choice if I knew I was going to a gunfight, but more than likely it will be what I have, at least I hope I do have a gun when a madman with a gun starts shooting at me or any innocent bystander(s).

Looks good to me, far better than I could hope for @ 50 yards.

You should just hope that "lazs" (username here on CGN) does not see this thread. He will be all over you saying you should be using some single action revolver from the 1890's in .44 because that is all that will work for a handgun.
