Handgun registration date?

When did california start registering handguns and where do I find it on the DOJ website? Thanks, Mark

??? I think the only registration is the DROS you do when you buy it.

but, according to an earlier reply I gave

According to CRPA, pistols had to be DROS's for dealer sales starting in 1954.
Private party sales of handguns didn't need DROS until 1991.
So, if the gun you're talking about fits those situations, then it never had to be registered. You could then sell it without any problem.

If you want to register a gun with DOJ that isn't currently, they have a form on their website. Make sure you know the provenance of said gun.

Is there an way to check "the provenance of said gun" without being an LEO?
I'm not trying to do anything illegal, but I am curious about this.

What I mean by that, is that I would hate to see someone self-register a stolen or crime gun.
For example, if your friend or family member bought the gun new, and transferred it to you before it was required to be DROS'd, you should be fine.

If you bought it from someone you didn't know well and trust(again, before transfers had to be DROS'd), you wouldn't be so sure that it wasn't a "dirty" gun.

In the second case, you might have some 'splainin to do.
