I dont know if you need the barrel nut wrench for the OMEGA rails. For the DD Lite Rail or M4 rails yes, but I was under the impression the Omega series was designed so you don't have to do armorer style work (and replacing the barrel nut is).

I did a little research for you.

Quote from DD website:

This two piece free float rail system secures to a proprietary barrel nut with our AR15 Lite Rail Barrel Nut Wrench so initial gunsmithing is required for installation. Once the rail system is completely installed, it can easily be removed from the barrel nut to allow the end user to perform maintenence to the barrel and gas tube while still maintaining a true free float design.

I just got mines in the mail, whoo hoo. Quick question to all you calgunners since this is my first build. My rail came with some blemishes, some deep enough that you can see the silver aluminum. What's the etiquette on getting new parts like that?

Call the dealer you bought it from.

I just did a install on the OmegaX... the wrench helps a lot in torquing it to spec. But if you don't care about that and just want to "crank" it until it's tight... a strap wrench also works.

Are the blemish by the hex key adjustment area? If so, lots of us have them, I think that's why they are on sale. It would be nice if the reseller would have noted these are 2nds.

Used a torque wrench and tighten the barrel nut to 50-70lbs as instructed. I've seen people used the strap wrench method only to have the barrel nut come loose after a few hundred rounds. Which can cause feeding, firing and ejecting issues. Have some peace of mind and do it right the first time around.

Actually no, it's more on the rail attachment area itself L39 - L41 to be exact, ha ha. I don't think it will affect performance of the rail and it is half off. It's just that usually when you buy something new and costs a lot, you'd expect it to come in perfect condition. Thanks for your input.
