looking for something better than the plastic double diamonds and i wanted to see if there was any advice.

what grips do you guys use? How thin/thick are they compared to stock grips?

And if you've tried grips with finger grooves, did that help you on follow up shots?

I think of the ones I've used, my favorite grips goes to the VZ Grips. Their Diamondback is very aggressive at 5 LPI. The Double Diamonds just look fantastic. They don't stain easily, or chip. You can sand them down and modify to knock down the sharp edges, they won't look like it's been sanded down.

Overall they're awesome.

My Favorite grips are the pearlite grips that come with the Colt Customs. I called Colt but Colt wont sell me those :( so I have the Ajax Pearlite grips with gold Colt medallions :(

I just use the simple double diamonds from Esmeralda. Handmade here in California.

If so then my two favorites come from Esmeralda (http://www.esmeralda.cc/latest_grips_added.htm) and Sarge (http://shop.thefinergrain.com/). They come in both standard thickness and slim. For full sized 1911s or compacts, or bob-tails, or pistols with extended mag wells. My hands are smallish so I go with slim grips. The picture below is my Compact CDP wearing Esmeralda's slim cocobolo double diamond grips. If you want something more basic you could go with Alumagrips (http://www.alumagrips.com/main.taf?p=2,1).

I prefer smooth wood grips. Here is a set of curly koas from Raasco.

I LOVE the look of smooth, but they don't grip worth a darn.

Another big +1 for Esmeralda. Really purdy wood, and fine craftswomanship, too.

Gotta give a shout-out to my man Ed Strange of Wicked Grips (http://www.wickedgrips.com/).

Not mine, but to give you an idea:

His Damascus steel grips are particularly amazing:

VZ and Esmeralda are great, I tend to use the VZ more though. The texturing on my gator backs just seems slightly better to me.

Wicked grips does some cool stuff too but damn they're expensive!

I used to be into cocobolo now I like G10.

My vote is for Davidson monkey grips. Besides good grips, I like him because he doesn't charge extra for options.

I have the Hogue rubber grips and I love them.

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd_images/lgprod/GRIP-045.jpgSame here. Yeah, they don't look so nice, but if you have big hands, they give you more purchase on the gun than any other grips out there. Hogue grips are for people who choose function over form.

I gave them a try, not for me. Why try and turn the nice svelte 1911 grip into a beretta 92 grip :p.

VZ without a question. They are fighting grips. Wood grips look pretty. Not good for matches or in the field on a shooter when your hands get sweaty, it is raining, etc.

VZ Alien or for something more aggressive, Mil-Tac grips (G10/micarta).

Another +1 for VZ for tactical and superior grip. Exotic wood for purr-teeness.

VZ, VZ, and VZ.

They're the only way to go. The Aliens are my favorite so far. They are about the most aggressive grip out there that doesn't require the use of gloves.

I have Ahrends grips on about all of my 1911s, except for my Les Baer.
My Ahrends are all fully checkered. Their wood is beautiful, my favorite is Tulipwood on my stainless or hardchrome. I've tried several different brands, and prefer Ahrends.
