Need a relatively cheap, very durable home defense shotgun I can also hunt with. I have never purchased a gun and will need to fill out the necessary documents. I Live in Half Moon Bay, 20 miles south of San Francisco, but am currently attending UCSC with a bunch of hippies in the trees. The girls are nice:D

is the 500 reliable? you get what you pay for and i KNOW the benelli is of great quality. the mossys american made and i would like the stimulate this recession. ive been scouting big 5 for a few months now...its either the moss combo for 280 or the benelli for like 350 or 370. not sure if the benellis worth it and i sure as hell aint gonna flip a coin. in the end i got a feeling ill take the cheap route..

Don't be afraid of the Mossberg 500. They have been building them for more than 40 years. They are built to a price point but they really function well. I prefer Remington 870s but not because they are more reliable.

Mossberg 500 combo from Big 5 is a great deal. Especally if you dont plan on tricking it out w/aftermarket stuff. I've never owned a Nova but search the forums for reviews. Personally I just like the feel of the Moss better. Plus you have the extra barrel if you ever want to shoot some skeet or maybe take it afield.

thanks guys! ill surely feel better spending less money and getting more equipment. mossbergs sound pretty reliable from what ive heard. i'm just drawn to the nova because it will cycle rounds of any dimension, and the world goes to hell i dont want to be stuck with my mossy with a 3" chamber and a bunch of 3 1/2" buck shot. just in case :D
