Enlighten me, please. What is the reference to "pinned"?

Earlier S&W's had barrels that were screwed into the frame and a "Pin" was placed through the frame and a notch in the top of the barrel to keep it from backing out of the frame under heavy usage. Many S&W afficionados consider this older method to be better. Newer models use a "crush" fit. HTH c good

Being at 28-2 it is pinned and recessed. Meaning the barrel is pinned and the cylinder recesses the head of the cartridge. This is a very nice gun, that can handle the hottest loads you can buy.

The pin and recessed chambers were dropped with the 28-3 in 1982. The model was discoed in 1986, so the non P&R 28's are actually one of the rarest of the breed, IMO.

But I still prefer them old school. Free bump for a good looker.
