George Morovich on gun rights (http://www.examiner.com/x-2879-Austin-Gun-Rights-Examiner~y2010m1d28-George-Morovich-on-gun-rights):

George Morovich is a Republican candidate running for Texas Congressional District 25, currently held by Lloyd Doggett. If you want a Congressman to represent your right to keep and bear arms, this questionnaire will assist you in deciding if a candidate will represent you.
Lloyd Doggett was endorsed by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence in 2008, which makes his position on gun rights very clear. The Brady Campaign has shown time and again that their idea of “sensible gun laws” translates into confiscation.
Brady also considers the states with the most gun control the “best” states in the union, even though these states average higher violent crime and murder rates.
As Obama says, it’s time for change.
The answers below are exactly how they were sent in Morovich’s reply.
Gun rights questionnaire

(Questionnaire courtesy of National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea)

1. Do you believe that the Constitution is the "supreme law of the land" and that the Bill of Rights acknowledges our birthrights?
Morovich: YES
2. If so, should these rights be proactively protected from infringement by all levels of government, including city, county and state?
Morovich: YES
3. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider constitutional.
Morovich: none come to mind, my family owns automatic weapons in compliance with law, but this is really unconstitutional.
4. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider unconstitutional.
Morovich: Certainly assault rifle bans and any restrictions or requirements to license/register.
5. Does the right to bear arms include the right for any peaceable citizen to carry them concealed without a permit, as in Vermont?
Morovich: YES
6. Do you believe that Americans have a right to own, use and carry weapons of military pattern, and will you use the prestige of elected office to publicly promote that right?
Morovich: YES
7. Do you support or oppose registration of weapons?
Morovich: Oppose
8. Do you support or oppose licensing requirements to own or carry firearms?
Morovich: Oppose except restrictions on felons and non-citizens.
9. What specific gun laws will you work to get repealed?
Morovich: all, as possible.
10.If elected, will you back your words of support for firearms rights up with consistent actions?
Morovich: Yes
11.Do you support the right of law-abiding college students to carry for self-protection while on campus?
Morovich: Yes, but there should be a minimum age limit as applied by State Law.

It's like if Calguns got its own representative.

The district is located around Austin, with a heavy Hispanic population. The incumbent Doggett won in 08 getting over 60% of the vote. Could be an uphill climb but this could be the year to do it.

There would be no point in me running for Congress since I live in Tom McClintock's district. I imagine that his answers would be pretty similar to Morovich’s. Except maybe for the part about owning automatic weapons, I'll have to ask him if he has any the next time he's in town. :D

Since Morovich is a Republican running in a district with a large Hispanic population, this from him campaign page (http://morovich.com/) might be a problem for him:

protecting our nation’s borders; no amnesty for illegal aliens

Then again, maybe it won't be a problem (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/15/AR2009011502310.html).

It seems like answers to questions #2 and #11 contradict each other.

2. If so, should these rights be proactively protected from infringement by all levels of government, including city, county and state?
Morovich: YES

11.Do you support the right of law-abiding college students to carry for self-protection while on campus?
Morovich: Yes, but there should be a minimum age limit as applied by State Law.

It looks like he says the constitution should be held above all levels of goverment. Then he says for college students there is a minimum age limit as applied by State.

It would be interesting to see how much of it stays intact "inside the Beltway." At present all we ever get is strip club politics. They show you what you want to see then you get excited and give them your money, but you don't end up actually getting it. You wake up the next morning with nothing to show for it but they still have your money.

His point is that the Feds shouldn't be the ones to set statutory limits. That should be done at the state level.

I believe age-of-majority sorts of laws at the state level have always been held to be Constitutional (see age of consent), and you can't exercise your full rights until majority. I imagine what he said passes muster, much as that may annoy some.
