Mod: please move to handguns if not legal enough question.

Im wondering on the legality of mfg. a single shot upper for a 1911 frame.
maybe a 5.7x28 bolt upper.
If I can does the magwell need a plug of some kind that locks into the magwell?
I know about the 1911A2 SASS but too expensive if you could find one.
Tell me what you think. You all know why I would want this.

Since the frame is the "controlled" part, cause it has the serial number, you should have no problem (legally speaking) of making your own slide and assembling it to your frame. I dont know if you have ever seen an actual SASS but the magazine looking thing that goes into the magwell actually locks the chamber in place. Also I have done what you are thinking about doing and had no problem other than having to explain to my dealer that it was legal and having the DOJ confirm as much to him, over the phone of course nothing in writing, but in the end I have a non roster .38 Super :D
