I should probably jump on the lower bandwagon...

Very nice, I like that magazine. I have always liked the idea of a clear magazine, it's easier to keep track of how many rounds you have if you lose track.

UberPhLuBB
01-13-2006, 2:42 PM
Yes, but 4/5ths of the magazine is hidden inside the magwell. Really all you see is the spring. With 10 rounds in, you can barely see the 10th round. It's a great concept for normal capacity magazines though.

Picked up my 3 lowers today and just got done building one - took at 1/2 hour (these things are just like legos)

I don't have any place to host - but I did take a couple pictures. I'll try to get it hosted this weekend.

Specs for the HP Upper:
Stag Lower
Bushmaster 10 round mag
Sporting Conversions fixed mag kit
White Oak Precision Service Rifle Upper with Krieger 1:7 twist barrel
White Oak Precision tuned RR NM trigger
NM sights
Barrel and stock weight
Turner sling

I cannot recommend the RR NM triggers either stock or tuned by White Oak - unbelievably smooth and SO much better then the god awful stock trigger the AR has. Feels more like a good M1A trigger.

For BM 10 round mags

and

http://sportingconversions.com/
For fixed mag "kit" (mag and mag catch not included).

I have those items on my CA-legal rifle which consists of:

STAG lower
Model One Sales A2 20" HBAR SS barrel w/ "M" marked upper/sights and A1 Flash hider(odd)

http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/1888/stanze106mb.jpg

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/7678/stanze10close3yh.jpg

I intended to build it in "M4" style at first, but the parts kit was a gift from my dad, it is over 10 years old and never fired. Thanks to my dad's contribution and not counting time and gas, I only invested $220 into my rifle so far. I'll build my Doublestar lower in "M4" style. I haven't picked it up yet.

Yes, you can use it on your AR15. I believe the TA01NSN is optimized for use with the 14.5" barrel found on USGI M4's. Not positive on that but it seems I read that somewhere. I've had one on my 16" Bushy for about a year now and I love the 4x for distance, but not for close work. There are back up iron sights on top, but I would rather use an EOTech if I did any amount of close shooting.

Kenneth
01-15-2006, 4:39 AM
Also, regarding the ACOG, after about 1000 rounds I noticed what looked like fog on the inside of the ocular lens. After about 90 more rounds it turned out that the scope was broken as many small pieces of glass could clearly be seen tinkling around inside. I sent an email to Trijicon and they responded back with an RA number and to make a long story short they fixed it free of charge (I actually thought they sent me a new one at first because it looked like new). So kudos to Trijicon for standing behind their product, and hopefully that was just a one off.

Pretty sure I bought all my 5.56, including what's in those pics from ammoman.com, outdoormarksman.com and locally when the stores would get in Q3131A. Ammo prices have headed north in the last 6 months, buy what you can and stock it up, it's not getting cheaper with the rising cost of the raw ingredients.

Good choice. I was debating that or the Wilderness single point. Went with the Wilderness one since I've had good luck with their stuff before. They also added a QD adapter for it but it costs extra.

Stag Lower
LMT 14.5" Upper with permenantly attached Phantom (The barrel is chrome lined with a 1/7 twist)
LMT lower parts kit (I think, it was from Bravo Company)
Knight's RAS & vertical foregrip
Rock River side sling adapter
Stag collapsable stock & milspec buffer extension, with H buffer
Bushmaster carry handle
Hogue pistol grip
Bushmaster 10rd magazine
Sporting Conversions magazine kit
And a 10 round stripper clip of XM855PD for good measure.

OK I gotta admit at first I didn't fully get the use of the 10 round thermold mag in Whitesand's rifle. Then I realized the ergonomic genious of the design!

See with the 10 round bushies the mags stick out as much as a 20 shot magazine so if you have a forward pistol grip on it then the fixed magazine will prevent the rifle from opening fully to load from the top. But with the shorter thermold in this design from DPMS the rifle opens and the pistol grip clears the mag... so subtle and clever. This probably also explains the use of the ar15plus.com kit by some as well.

Of course I am also in DROS right now for two Sun Devil lower receivers that I bought from Chris at BSP in Riverside. Great guy btw. I can't wait to start piecing them together!

I'll take better pics of the Carbon 15 though. Going shooting again tomorrow. It is still very cool and very very light... So it will still have some sort of neat factor. ;)

I am starting to have second thoughts on the Bushmaster. At first I was not too impressed with the carbon fibre. I did get to shoot a free state detachable mag version at a LEO show in vegas last year and it seemed just o.k. But I guess anything would seem o.k. after just shooting a 100rnd belt out of a M249:D
I was at a public range last week with my Ameetec and met another shooter with one of the fixed mag bushies and it did shoot and function just fine.
Hell I guess you could always get a Vulcan CF lower for it. You could call it the MasterVulcan or maybe BushVulcan.

Of course I was happy to finally get my hands back on an AR again period! :D I've gotten to play around with them infrequently, but the best was at Twentynine Palms 12 years ago when I took to the range with a M16A2 and scored 5 perfect sessions on semi and 2 on burst.

Speaking of Carbon Fiber. I have an old Professional Ordnance Carbon Fiber upper with match grade fluted barrel. It fits on my registered AR and really cuts down on the weight.

I wonder if I should get the Vulcan CF lower for the PO CF upper. That should make the rifle weigh something like 1 pound. :D :D

This is going to sound really stupid but can you have a threaded flash suppressor on your AR-15 if the barrel is 16" or more and you have the fixed 10 round magazine?

not stupid, but then again, that is what the FAQ is for ;)

if the mag is fixed, you can have flashsupressors/threaded barrels/pistol grips etc.

WhiteSands,

Let's see...I have cobbled this carbine together from:

Stag Lower
LMT 14.5" Upper with permenantly attached Phantom (The barrel is chrome lined with a 1/7 twist)
LMT lower parts kit (I think, it was from Bravo Company)
Knight's RAS & vertical foregrip
Rock River side sling adapter
Stag collapsable stock & milspec buffer extension, with H buffer
Bushmaster carry handle
Hogue pistol grip
Bushmaster 10rd magazine
Sporting Conversions magazine kit
And a 10 round stripper clip of XM855PD for good measure.

The tight fit of the bull barrel upper is a good thing. Nice solid lockup between the upper and lower. A little tight is much better than a lot of slop.
I had a similar upper years ago that was a very tightly fitted on my Registered PWA lower. Made a very accurate rifle though.

right now the lower is from my original pistol caliber.

lower is very basic, stag, RRA single stage kit, stag butstock and a hogue grip. actually it also has the heavy buffer in there too. If I were you, i'd get a nice A1 stock, or the magpul stock (forget part number).

upper is DPMS low-pro upper (no FA), 24" stainless 1:9 barrel, free float handguards and some scope i should replace soon.

I have all the parts for my MK12 Mod 1 themed rifle project. I put the upper on a registered Colt Sporter for load testing this weekend.

http://www.ocabj.net/photos/firearms_personal/IMG_4167_altered_500.jpg (http://www.ocabj.net/gallery/mk12mod1)

I would have tested last weekend, but I didn't feel like loading all my gear into the car to go to the range with the off and on rain. Plus, I doubt the chronograph would have given ideal data with the cloud cover.

Anyway, I have tons of pics here -> http://www.ocabj.net/gallery/mk12mod1

Note the GSE upper and A2 stock I plan on using (Stag LPK not pictured). That A2 stock was originally off the pictured Colt Sporter. It was replaced with a standard 4-position collapsible stock (the Colt Sporter factory configuration was a 16" Carbine length with carry handle).

Upper receiver is an Adco custom build. White Oak Armament (WOA) upper receiver with M4 feed ramps, 18" WOA SS SPR barrel with 1 in 7" twist (KG Black coated), WOA B/BC/CH, A2 flash hider, and Daniel Defense 12.0 handguard.

Scope is a Leupold Mark 4 3-9x36 M3 Illuminated Mildot. Rings are ARMS #22H.

Temporary lower receiver assembly is a Colt Sporter lower receiver with Rock River Arms 4-position stock and original factory Colt lower parts.

Planned lower receiver assembly is a Gunsmoke Enterprises lower receiver with a Colt A2 stock and CMT/Stag lower parts kit.

The unique Colt block is blind pinned from the right side with a steel pin positioned where the sear pin would go on a full-auto receiver. This pin and the hole it fits in are a larger diameter than the full-auto sear so as to preclude illegal modification of the lower to full auto. The block prevents the use of a Drop-In-Auto-Sear (A Class III device in itself). Plus the block prevents the use of a full-auto bolt carrier (In fact, all rifles built with lowers that have the sear block can only use a semi-auto carrier with the lower rear of the bolt carrier machined off--not even a "full-circle" semi-auto bolt carrier will work)

ETA1: The sear block also prevents use of the full-auto disconnector with the longer tail. Some after market 2 stage trigger groups won't work with the blocked lowers.

ETA2: Weird. Just compared pics. The sear block pin on Stevie's lower is in a different position from that of the pin on my blocked Colt lower.

The block can legally be removed, but the common method is to grind away the block and cut the pin flush with the interior wall of the receiver, leaving part of the pin to fill the hole. Otherwise you have a hole in the side of the receiver.

I'm also thinking of going with all green furniture on it. Does that Colt you have dressed in green also have the matching handguards? I'd like to see a pic of that if you don't mind, only seen a few pictures recently of rifles that were done up with the green gear...

Thanks!

Look on page 15, it has a pic of my Colt Sporter A2 with a green Arms 51 handguard.

So far i like the dissy setup, I had the barrel lightened by ADCO and had that muzzle break removed. I do not plan on ever needing a Bayo, so i do not consider that a problem. :D

Thanks - I'd seen that other picture, didn't realize it was the same rifle. Your pic's have good lighting, I was hoping to see a green setup with regular handguards. Oh well...

How's the balance of the Dissipator? They look barrel-heavy, but it's only a 16" barrel so it's probably just deceiving.

The heavy bbl version is front heavy. So thats why i had it lightened, its not that bad now. Granted once you add the rail, light etc.. it does get a little weighty. If you ever in L.A. area your more than welcome to fondle it.

Not if you are going to play "Finders Keepers". ;)
I think I lost the other magazines when I moved to Fremont in 1998. If I can't find the rest of my 30-rds, I'll be pretty sad. As for a muzzle brake, I reall didn't want one, just a nut to protect the threads. In regards to the safety detent spring bracket, I made it from scrap sheet metal I found lying around at work and bent it with a hammer and vise. Then I drilled a mounting hole and shaped it with a file. Not too hard to do, but you do have to cut down the safety detent spring to a shorter length.

Why would you want a stock covered with lubricant? You'll end up with it all over your face after a day at the range.

He doesn't mean to spray or submerge the stock in lubricant. He just means to grab a rag and apply a very light coat of CLP to give the stock a better and more uniform finish.

That was at 50 yds on the first day sighting it in with open sights. I ran out of ammo because I am waiting for my shipment of ammo from an internet order, It kills me to pay $7.50 a box (20) at my local GS.

The second day I just ponied up the $23 (3 boxes) and sighted it in with the scope. I still had fun either way. It was raining the second day and friggin' freezing so the longer range stuff is gonna happen later. But for me, it's all about having fun.

Not quite to the letter, but that XM-177 from Model 1 is what I'm thinking about as well! I really like that long flash suppressor with the holes, looks quite Tacticool. :D

Questions though...

1. How's the fit & finish from Model1?
2. You have a fixed stock, will the collapsable stock not meet the 30" length requirement?
2. Have you fired it yet, and with that short barrel is it moderately accurate out to 100, 200, and 300 yards?
3. What was their turn-around time to ship you the kit?

Thanks!
John

Hey Primer510, since that rifle doesn't have a flash hider or telescopic/folding stock you should make a grip substitute so you can also run a detachable mag version.

Both of my off-list rifles have threaded barrels so I can replace the hider with a brake and pull off the pistol grip when I want to shoot them in a match.

Yeah, it blows to have to go gripless, but it's not as bad as it seems.

First they have to get a court order, then give it to Calguns, and then Calguns would have to comply to giving up that info (chances are that would end up in a court battle if Calguns has any balls, which they probably do), which if anyone who has registed will remember is nothing except for an email. Then, say they do get the court order because so and so does not have a fixed mag or something like that (like they are going to waste their time on that one) and Calguns does not put up a fight and just hands over the email address. THEN they have to go and get another court order for your ISP, who does have your real personal info (unless your a hotmail account or something like, where you did not have to give real info). And then your ISP will have to cough up the info (has anyone read today's LA Times about Google and the US GVT)?

Who can tell us the last time (or first time) they heard a story about one guy getting tracked down, court order after court order due to a firearm?

You always need to be careful in life, but please, some people are way to paranoid here. On the other hand, no reason to wave your come and get me flag.

Just one person's humble opinion.

hiyabrad,

Actually to answer your last question... recently if I recall correctly. Some kid on MySpace was posing with various firearms and his local police department was issued a warrant for his residence.

Furthermore it would not be the e-mail address, but rather the IP address of the poster which we log on every post.

I guess... some of us just want to point out what is OK, and what is NOT OK....

Bill and a couple of other good guys put in a LOT of effort in posting the detailed FAQ, and listing out what is OK and what is NOT.... it would suck if some newbie look at this cool "show me your rifles" thread... and build JUST in that very same configuration... and bring that to some public range.... sure that is plain stupid... yet...

***Cough*** Patriot Act***Cough*** They don't need court orders any more my friend...

I think I'm one of those paranoid type of guys but don't you belive that just because this is the internet you are protected by anonymity. If you have the time to read the 73 pages of this thread: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=399203 You can learn how regular folks can track someone over the Internet. That thread gives you a very good idea how the Internet anonymity is a thing of the past! ;) YMMV

Call me crazy, but I just read all 73 pages. Hilarious stuff that is all too familiar to me being that we have our fair share of assclowns on my forum that receive the same "special attention" that Mr. Wenzel received.

VERY easy to track someone you have exchanged personal info with, as in the Wenzel case. Money and product back and forth nets a lot of location data.

Ahh I get it now, thanks Jeff. So this does not utilize a spacer like the sporting conversions kit.... I am guessing that the washer keeps the nut from going inside of teh lower erceiver. So if you over torque the nut is it possible to ruin the receiver?

you'd be shocked. some A-hole mod on another forum gave my info to the Sherf. Dept. They only gave them my IP addy and they tracked me down and showed up on my sidewalk. Reason? Everyone was talking cr@p about one LEO and i said "he deserves an arse beating" and my avatar at the time was the sniper from saving private ryan. They said because of that they were "WORRIED" wtf. they have nothing better to do... So watch yourself buddy~

I bought a whole rifle kit, it is the same upper except is has m4 handguards and a side-sling, also at the time they were backordered on Wilson barrels and I had to get a DPMS barrel. Haven't had any problems with it yet.

When you "quote", can you please don't quote the "IMG" part? Or delete what is within the IMG part? So it will not be multiples of the same pic.... ;)
