As for the Magpul front end, it's super sturdy. One downside is I can't have the MVG as far back as I'd like it(by about an inch) Not a huge difference, but just not what I'm used to.

which one? i see the following:

DD Omega
Larue
Magpul MOE
Standard M4 oval
And what looks to be a Knights Armament RAS installed on the rifle.

None of those require any gunsmithing to install.

The one on the rifle doesn't look like KAC to me, but I could be wrong. I would guess Midwest Industries or Troy. The KAC is pretty darn slim, while some of the others that work just like it are a little thicker. The one on the rifle looks like the thicker ones. But it could just be my eyes playing tricks on me.

Just got the FNH FS2000 at the weekend, no range time yet, the gun looks great but just like the SCAR its very plastic, almost to plastic beyond the barrel and picatinny rail. some parts i wish were all metal are the side charging handle cover, the safety fire switch, the trigger, and i believe the hammer is plastic. So a bit toyish to the touch, but perhaps ill change my mind once i hear the bursts of bullets coming out.

Anybody got a good picture of a CMMG Upper on a Spikes Pictogram lower? I'm curious to know how the color matches up. I've got a Spikes lower in DROS jail right now. Got a heck of deal on it, only $99 shipped. I am hoping it will match either perfectly, or at the very least better than the Mega lower I have on it now. Mega has that flat matte powdery look, which is great when your upper does as well. CMMG has a semi-gloss dark black color, and with any luck the Spikes will as well. The picture above gives me hope. Looks nice and dark. There are worse problems to have, I know. But I figured it couldn't hurt to ask the experts. I'm 90% finished gathering all the parts I need for another upper, built on a Mega receiver to match my Mega lower. Gathered the parts one at a time over the past year, some of which are returned parts some of which I traded stuff I did not need for, and some of which where dealer specials I ran accross. All of which are great quality and should make for a great rifle.

I put that 14.5 CMMG upper I bought from you 2 weeks ago on a spare spikes lower I had. The cmmg upper is a lil more glossy. And the spikes is like a flat finish. I think it looks perfectly fine though. Plus the gun is gunna be used and get scratched, not a safe queen :)

If you need better pics let me know. I just took em quick and not in very good lighting

How about Duracoating the rifle? Or even cheaper, just rattlecan/Krylon it -- there are some awesome camo treatments on another pic thread here!

It doesn't really bother me. When I purchased the lower I knew it probably wouldn't match. It is just that the picture of the Spikes above looked so dark I thought it might match up and that would would have been a nice unexpected bonus.

At first, sure...but over time it starts to chip off. I duracoated the barrel on a Remington 700 5R Milspec and if you breathed on it wrong it scratched. Was very frustrating. I like the look of it, but since its a little fragile I have a problem spending $2-4K on a rifle then taking a can of Krylon to it. Of course as soon as I say that, I'll probably turn around and do it. Never fails.

Hey All,

Really nice builds!

Here's my first build....

yup, those blue bands are holding the pressure switchs down until the sticky on the velcro takes...I;m not too confident on how well they're going to stick. If I run out of ammo, I can always let the rubber bands fly...

I'll probably look for better velcro tape, or would like to hear suggestions of anyone else having a better solution to keeping those little switch pads in place.

Cheers!

Very cool. What brand? I was considering a Century, but I had issues with my Century 308 Cetme. It had a VERY stiff charging handle that was almost impossible to cock, even after replacing the bolt. Have you had good luck with yours?

I like the Glock plate. I sell a TON of those. An old military buddy manufacturers them, and I was one of his first retailers. They have really caught on. These days you see them everywhere. Good for him.

It's a VLTOR "VIS-2A-AK" rail system.

Thanks, I'll scribble that in the notebook

Sorry for asking but what is the intended purpose of this rifle? i've bene trying to figure that out for a few days, kicking in doors or DSM perhaps?

DSM ?

I think this AR is pretty similar to a bunch of other ARs? only difference is the Bipod there, used when I go to the range using a table and for my wife when she shoots.
Uses similar red dots and mag FTS Magnifier.

He's probably referring to Designated Squad Marksman

Yes, he meant Designated Squad Marksman Rifle. Nothing wrong with your rifle. He was probably just giving you a hard time about the bipod since it adds so much weight. Don't worry about it. Nothing wrong with your rifle being a range whore instead of a run n' gun rifle. It's just that it's setup like cross between the two, so he was wondering which it was. Only takes a second or two to take off the bipod anyway. It's not like it is welded on there.

Nothing negative or bad directed at your rifle I was just trying to figure out it's general purpose. My wife hardly ever shoots my ar-15 maybe I'll throw a bi-pod to see if she likes it. The DSM did indeed stand for designated squad marksman.

Yes, the light is a Surefire E2D and the mount is a LaRue. I'll update the post with better pictures and full parts list when I am more awake.

The length of pull on the shotgun is definately too long. While the Knoxx stock is a big seller for me, I could not get used to them. So I'll likely end up adding a Speedfeed youth/tactical length stock down the road. My shotgun is the "red headed stepchild" of my collection. It comes in last when it comes time to speed money on upgrades. Too many other projects in the que. So far I have been much more impressed with it that I thought I would.

Ninja? no, it wasn't the Eotech and the magnifier that threw me off, it was the bi-pod and piston system on a 16 inch barrel that got me. In truth it looks like 90% of the AR's on this site. Ninja would be the tactical Ipod/Iphone attachment on the side rail at this point.

LOL, bought a piston as I've read it operated better and required less cleaning. Don't know the difference and performance in regards to 16" piston to something shorter in barrel length. Bi-pod is used when I take the Wifey to shoot. Actually want to do a 24" bull barrel on this thing matched with a 6-16x Leupold mark ar. But I agree it looks like 90% of the rest of the AR's Ive seen on the thread which is why the Ninja comment threw me off.

They got the idea of making it piston driven from AKs. AKs have a 16 barrel as well, and that piston system is just as short as on your Carbine. The extended gas systems help out big time when your rifle is DI, but I am not so sure they do anything "extra" for you when they are piston driven, I don't have enough experience with them to know. So I don't get his point there. I think it is just the bipod that threw him, and given that your rifle is mostly used on the range it makes perfect sense to have it on there. You have some very high-end parts on your rifle. Words like NINJA should be saved for the CAA, Tapco, MAKO, and Chinese Airsoft Parts lovers...and even those parts have an appropriate time and place.

This would be my first build. I originally wanted to start out buying a complete rifle and pick up a Ruger, but the price was a little steep for me at the time, and I was also convinced that building would be the better way to get into the "hobby." I also didn't want to go Magpul with the thing, but somehow it just ended-up that way:p The thing I like about the Magpul look is that the gun keeps a very nice, clean look. What I don't like about it is that everyone has it.

-Kaiser KR5 lower with stag LPK and Vamfire MLD mag lock
-Adams Arms 16" upper
-Full Magpul MOE furniture(I call it bodywork)
-LMT front sight
-Millett DMS-1 scope with knockoff SPR 1.5 mount. Real one coming on Monday
-I'm thinking a stubby foregrip, but not sure about the legality

The Ruger will probably come next, unless something else catches my eye. Like an ACR or That Kaiser .308:cool:

Man, I don't like the look of carbine length MOE handguards since it makes the barrel look too long (for that matter, any carbine handguards on a 16" barrel). I can't wait till Magpul releases the midlength version so I can slap it on one of these (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BCM-URG-MID-14)

What they lack in sex appeal they make up for in practicallity. They offer railed surfaces perfectly suitable to forward grips and lights (not lasers) while offering drastically reduced weight when compared to a metal rail system. So for a SWAT SBR or CQB rifle for example they make a really smart option. The lighter the gun, the longer you can stand at the low ready out side a home or bank where a hostage situation is occuring waiting for the go command. I know several SWAT guys that love them for that reason. My point being, it is not always about looks. Addimatedly, looks are part of the reason I don't run them myself. I like the looks of rails better myself. However, the extra weight that comes with the rails does have me considering a switch every now and again.

Haha! I was wondering the same thing, and came to the same conclusion. Usually they are mounted on the railed forend infront of a red dot sight and behind an IR laser (on a military rifle). Hence the confusion. Since he is not running a red dot, it makes sense for it to be where it is. It is probably much easier to reach where he has it.

LOL! That's exactly how I got it when I traded (CalGuns) my Kimber 1911 SS Gold Match II for it. I have since taken off the 37mm flare launcher and sight and sold them. I bought and installed a GPS02 Grip Pod (black) and LOVE it.

Whats even funnier is that the rear sight is on backwards too, again that's exactly how I got it and nobody here has noticed that. I didn't even notice until I got back from the range and was cleaning my rifle after shooting it lol.

Remodeled my AR-15 after I had Drawn at ArmoryAirbrush duracoat my upper and lower receiver. I need a red dot now. I sold my 511 because I have an astigmatism and was getting some starburst. But looking back I was getting so little that I may just buy another Eotech. But I am going to find an Aimpoint to look down first.

Here's my first build, with the latest addition of a long scope....I got bullseye hits at 100 yards with three shot groups about the size of silver dollar. I normally have a red dot sight with a back up/folding rear iron site that i use and I am able to shoot just as well, but don't see it while it's happening given there's no magnification. It has a S&W M&P15 lower, FN upper, Wilson barrel, and I was shooting Wolf rounds. Next time, I'll spend a little more on the ammo, work on technique/breathing/trigger pull/etc, and hope to get tighter groups. It's an awesome rifle and lots of fun to shoot!

Almost done. However, if you are anything like me you'll find you are NEVER done. There is always something different to try out.

Forgive the unsolicited advice. You have a great rifle there, but it looks to be missing a really important part. Rear sights on rifles running red dots offer a lot of advantages.

1) They make it much easier to sight the rifle in. At 25 yards irons will at the very least be on the paper. This is not necessarily so with optics like red dots or scopes making them much harder to sight in. So if you sight in with your irons first, you can then adjust the red dot until it lines up perfectly with your irons and you're sighted in. One or two more 3 round groups will get it fine tuned and you are done. This process usually requires half the amount of ammo you would need if trying to sight in a red dot or similar type of optic on its own (unless you get really lucky).

2) They are a critical backup to an electronic device prone to failure. EoTechs and Aimpoints can and do fail. Experienced it myself with a very expensive Aimpoint. When that happens you will really regret not having a backup iron sight.

3) They ensure you never loose the ability to use irons. If they are on the rifle, odds are you will practice with them. Or at least you should. That way if you pick up somebody else's rifle that only has irons you will still know what you are doing and won't be crippled by the lack of a red dot sight.

There are lots of options out there. Some are fixed, some are flip-up, both work great. My favorite are made by Troy Industries, but they pricey and out of a lot of people's budget. Midwest Industries makes a really nice inexpensive sight (comparatively speaking). I am not a huge fan of Magpul MBUS sights, only because the plastic base has a high likelihood of breaking off if you take it on and off the rifle. If you go with the Magpul option put it on the rifle once, and leave it where it is. If you try and take if off odds are it is going to break on you. Once on, and left in place it is pretty sturdy. However, some people have broken them simply by tightening down the screw too far. The plastic aperture for the MBUS is not uniform either, making it harder to be accurate with them. Hence my preference for metal sights which can be machined much more precisely and are much stronger.

In any case, you have a great rifle. Looks like a lot of fun.

Yep, you can almost make out the TROY logo. Looks like either a 13" or 15" rail as well. They make some extra-long ones in addition to the normal 12" rail that they and everyon else makes. Of the "user installable" rail systems on the market, Troy makes the best ones hands down. To get a better rail you need some gun smithing skills and tools or have a shop that does install it for you.

I picked up a Forward Grip and Optics... all temporary until I save up for the Surefire Forward grip w/ Light and a Trijicon ACOG. The Forward Grip is a Magpul ($25) and the Optic is a NcStar Mark III 1.25-4x32 Mil Dot scope w/ illuminated reticles ($120) with a lifetime warranty. I went out to the desert a few days ago and was very happy with the scope. It heald zero and was pretty accurate... not bad to hold me over until I can pick up the ACOG.

Any insight?

Here's my rendition of the MK12 SPR. Note how the OPS INC collar is so far rearward on the barrel. The shoulder on the DPMS barrel isn't in the correct spot so the 12th model suppressor wouldn't be compatible with this set up (not that it matters here anyway ).

I have a pretty amazing 16" 1:7 Bead Blast Finished Stainless Barrel from CMMG on one my rifles that I have more than pleased with. May want to chat up Zach over at CMMG and see if their 18" profile barrels would put the collar where you want it to be. The SPRs have 18" barrels. My build is more of a Recon Rifle than an SPR. Of course, no hurry. You rifle looks great like it is. Nobody would notice if you did not tell them. I thought the collar was a gas block when I looked at it, so the rifle looked normal to me.

What make/model scope is that? SuperSniper? Been considering one of those.

My latest rig. Have had it running for the past 2 weekends with some 600 rounds down range. I think I am almost done. The Troy back up sights were a breeze to sight in. For now they are sighted in at 50 yards. Then I added an EOTech XPS2-0 and a Primary Arms 3x deluxe magnifier with a QD mount. The QD mount will be replaced with a flip to the side, shortly. I think I may change out the Ergo grip for a MagPul MIAD.

Upper:

- BCM BFH 16" mid length upper receiver group
- BCM BCG
- BCM Gunfighter Mod 4 CH
- Larue Tactical 12" FF handguard
- Larue Tactical index clips . . . (Gotta love these clips. I have them on 2 of my rigs.)
- Larue Tactical VTAC 2 point sling . . . (Not shown. Used for off bench/position shooting.)
- Troy DOA rear sight
- Troy M4 style front sight
- EOTech XPS2-0 . . . (Much better that the previous EOTs. Better than Aimpoint?. . . Undecided)
- Primary Arms 3x deluxe magnifier . . . (Build and quality are an 8. Cost much less than my older Aimpoint 3x magnifier)
- MagPul AFG
- Battle Comp 1.0 . . . (This is probably my favorite part for the dollar)

Lower:

- Spike's . . . (I drank the spiked Kool-Aid twice)
- ST-T2 buffer
- Spike's billet trigger guard
- MagPul UBR stock (Had a MagPul ACS stock and ASAP end plate on initially. Had these as extra parts.)
- Jager UBR aluminum strike plate
- MagPul BAD lever (First one which I have tried. It has become second nature in short time.)
- KNS anti-rotation pins . . . (Appeared to be a good idea, at the time)
- Geissele SSA trigger group
- Ergo grip . . . (Will most likely switch out to a MIAD)
- Other lower parts from spare parts bin

I'm really tempted to pick one of these up for myself. Sadly I have too many unfinished projects as it is. I need optics for one of my M4s, and am only 45% finished building my AR10. I promised myself I would get those projects completed before buying any new guns.

Have they started selling the version with the railed forend yet? Not saying yours is not amazing. I am just curious.

They sell the enhanced version, but the Remington military version has a little better setup which I have seen at least one other person manage to pick up
