Curious, if you have a truck what can be considered a container for trapsportation?

I usually go to the range with friends who drive and we put them in the trunk.

If I were to travel using my truck is putting a lock on the gun.- (Through the mag) also with the safety on (if that matters. -And keep it in its case am I legal? Or not? Also the guns would be placed in the back seat (if that matters)

Sorry if its an answered question. But I'm mobile.

Why get (apparently) off-tracked by the lock concept?

Does "locked" define what a container is?

A container is one concept, whether it is locked is another....

Also, long gun or handgun?

CA law: handguns must be in a locked container within 1000 ft of a school.
A car trunk that is only accesible from outside the car is a locked container.

Fed law: all guns (with limited exceptions) must be in a locked container in a school zone.

Are Biometric Safes ok. Or does the safe have to have a mechanical lock?

A secure locked container.
It may be opened with a key or combination.
