I read a few posts on a grandfather transferring a handgun to his grandson. Everything sounds good. My question is... is there a certain amount of time the grandfather has to own the handgun before its possible to transfer it to the grandson?

Say he purchases it, waits 10 days, picks it up, then transfers it. Any problems with that?

Thanks for the info.

Please check out the wiki. No dedeye around to say it :P

Grandfather can hand the handgun to the +18 yr old grandson the instant he gets it. Nothing needed except the oplaw family transfer form.

Both the grandfather and grandson must be California residents for this to work.

Also, the grandson MUST have a Handgun Safety Certificate in order to receive the weapon.

Finally, as BigDave said, the grandson must be 18 or older.

Happy Shooting.
