Does anybody got any scoop on what the model name is going to be?

Possibly a OLL if they don't call it SR15E3.

No idea what the final model name will be, but there's some pics here:

It's on an SR-15 lower. KAC isn't exactly the most CA-friendly company. Hurts, since they make good stuff. :(

Goddamn why is Magpul so cool? Same thing with KAC. I just love both of them

They could have at least got the anodizing right. The potholes on the barrel are lame. I would like to have that lower though.

I guess some people just don't recognize genius when they see it...

At least two other people in this thread have taste. :)

I wonder how much these are gonna go for? The dimples complete that rifle IMO.

Do the dimples really serve a purpose, or is it just a cool factor?

If anything they decrease weight and increase surface area which helps cool the barrel faster.

I think it is pretty cool looking.

$3375 is the MSRP for the package. package includes the SR-15 E3, Triple Tap, 5 PMAG's, the two volumes of the Magpul Dynamics AOTC DVD's, the dimpled barrel, and possibly a case. kinda doesn't matter for us since we can't get them into CA anyway. :(

plus they needed orders for 100 of these last week if they were to make them. i'm not sure if they got enough dealer orders or not to move forward.

The dimples are there so it feels "different" when the mountain lion takes it from you and shoves it up...

The dimples lighten the barrel, and also provide more surface area for cooling (in theory, I dont think they have ever done scientific testing to prove that it does actually cool the barrel faster, but the concept seems pretty self-evident). Its the same idea as any barrel fluting, just a little more stylish. I for one love the look of it.

ADCO offers barrel dimpling service.

So, are they making the KAC Triple Tap in black now (which I heard was very difficult to do) or do you think that's just painted?

looks painted (like sharpie). Why would it be hard to annodize in black?

Yes, I was told by Casey at Lawmen's that the KAC triple tap brake is now available in black.

I have not heard whether or not it is painted, but due to the application I would highly doubt it.

A member on another board, who had recently purchased a new black tt brake, said that KAC accidentally printed their "crest" logo on it upside-down!

The Triple Tap is Kade of inconel which will turn black the more you use it and te hotter it gets. A way to show if you actually use that safe queen. ;-)

Yeah but that black builds up and then comes off, and the process keeps repeating with use.

A friend of mine who's a machinist and tig welder said that if you heat-up a piece of inconel really, really hot, and then quench it in a pail of canola oil, that it would turn it a dark green/black color, which is what the tt brakes on the KAC PDWs looks like.

It's not aluminum, it's Inconel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inconel). ;)

i like a dimpled barrel better than a fluted one. serves more of less the same purpose. might not provide as much rigidity but it sure looks good.

Because you can't anodize inconel.

It's to impart a turbulent boundry layer and reduce drag!

Dimpling imparts a higher surface area than fluting. In theory, this should lead to more efficient cooling.

I just love the way it looks. Adco does it wrong, though - not tight enough.

$3300 is pretty steep for that package...

do they dimple before rifling? does it cause stresses if done after? silly question, I had heard a long time ago "douglas air gage" barrels were +- a tenth,,, a little hard to believe but althought the dimpling is cool and all, what is the final tolerance for this vs a "match" grade premium from like bartlett etc?

I asked the guy from KAC if they would make recievers with a different model number
and was basically snubbed, saying "they (KAC) don't play the name game" ~ which was not very friendly, that said other posters on the thread spoke of KAC's pricing as you are being f*cked in both ends.

Too bad, I really like their stuff and really dig my SR15E3 upper.

But in reality, they don't need the CA market, as they have Uncle Sugar in their pocket for the next forseable decade +

Why no more polished TTBs??!! Coming already anodized, painted, etc. black makes it less desirable to me.

And I like the dimpling, looks good with the rifles.

To bad KAC won't rename their lowers, I would buy a regular complete rifle if I could.
