I received my CMMG upper today and I think I may have a problem. I didn't think I would have any problems installing the DD Omega 12 FPS. The flash hider on my upper is pinned on because the upper is only 14in. I need to remove the front site to install the DD but the flash hider is thicker than the barrel. Will I still be able to install the DD Omega or am I SOL?

If installation of the rail requires removal of the front sight base, the flash suppressor will need to be removed in order to do that.

If you need to remove the front sight and your flash suppressor is perma-pinned in place then the only way to remove the sight is to cut the FS off, which will destroy it. You can either do that or just buy a 7.0 Omega rail.

Thanks guy's I didn't even think of this when I purchased them. I got the DD Omega 12 on sale through Bravo. The Omega 7.0 is too pricy. Damn I was looking forward to them working together.

I can remove the permanent muzzle device and install a new one after the rail is installed.

I've heard many good things about ar15barrels and would go through them for sure if I needed anything like this done to any of my rifles

Well I'm going to see if Bravo will let me cancel my order and I'll save up for the Omega 7.0. Thanks guys

Same boat here brother, I'm trying to push the OmegaX12 so I can get the standard Omega drop-in, all the savings on the rail go away when you figure near $100 to have it installed. Bummer.

Is the rifle a 14.5 or 14.7" barrel? You're better off with hacking the hider if it's a 14.7, but a 14.5 isn't cheap, because of the extended hider that will have to be replaced.

It's the 14.5  I'm still try to figure out what to do.

buy the drop in rail and install it on the 14.5" upper and build another upper to use with that rail. pretty obvious :p

Maybe cut the FH parallel with the barrel at 3 points, allowing the 3 pieces to drop away but not cutting into the barrel any deeper than the threads?
