I'm confused - do you want an AR style rifle or a rifle in the same class?

Why not build your own AR?

Of your choices:

FN >> SIG > LWRC > XCR

These guys are CA friendly, and they design and produce ONLY piston guns...

You forgot the ACR that's coming up. However, if you're in hurry, SCAR and you'll be glad you didn't look back/think twice.

CA legal XCR
Then you can have different calibers down the line. BB or MMG from the factory. Piston. It's everything everyone else has been building.

Or have ADDAX make you a piston upper for a regular AR.

After many rifles I now have a LWRC. If I bought the LWRC first, the money I saved would have bought me another LWRC.

Scar's are nice, but will end up costing you $3000.

Sig 556 have a $300 rebate now, I'm thinking about getting a Sig 556 Patrol.

Save yourself time and money and buy a LWRC!

XCR for sure.
I just bought one too.
Caliber convertible (5.56, 6.5g, 6.8, 7.62x39), piston, ambi bolt release, left side charging handle, 3 lug/AK style bolt, adjustable gas, free floated barrel, monolithic upper/quad rail, great customer service, half the price of an ACR with all of the features.

I would buy or build an AR15 type with the best upper ,which is a BCM or Colt ...Why? they are low priced and parts are available almost everywhere.

get scar... which is a very balanced gun. most ar-15 style piston rifles come with heavier front, after adding light and optics, it become way too much on the front.

Make sure you compare the innards as well....

I know a Sig556 does not have a chrome lined barrel. No chrome lining means quicker barrel wear.

Sig doesn't need a chrome lined barrel it uses a Nitrided treated barrels which apparently is a better technology and gives greater protection than chrome lined barrels.
Sig 556 is a fantastic rifle then again so is LWRC weapon systems.

SCAR is pricey but you will look the s#@& at the range with one.

of all you can find Sig556 lowest I've seen used is $1200, XCR also used around $1200, the other two are about twice as much cost, all designed from the ground up around the piston design

Thank you everyone for their input. I have decided to go with just the FN SCAR so later on I wont regret it. Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase one for a good price?

I've got a SIG 556 and it shoots like a dream. If you go that route I'd strongly recommend the classic handguards

If you're gonna spend $2K... get an LMT Piston MRP...

Or better yet, buy two gas operated AR15s. :P

I am having the same problem, can't decide but I narrowed it down to the LWRC and XCR. I'll probably end up with both.

I have a buddy out of state who has both and he let me shoot both, he also educated me on both.

XCR is a lot of gun for the price. Match quality trigger, folding stock option (in case you move out of CA), quick barrel change, quick caliber change, AK long stroke piston system, FAL like charging handle, and monolithic upper.

The XCR bolt is also a 3-lug design that is not prone to breakage like the AR 5 little lug system. But also we don't have full auto capabilities and high pressure blowback gas in carbine system so the litle lugs on the AR bolt is not a big deal and probably won't be an issue even after 15k rounds. Even then, a quality AR bolt is only $60, and all you do is slap her in and go.

The LWRC is better finished and just screams trick. It has nice stuff all the way around. The stock trigger is not as nice as the XCR, but it is not bad and about on par with Armalites 2-stage tactical trigger. The Rails look as good as anything out there, the butt-stock is Vltor EMod, the PG is a MIAD, and the sites are Troys, the industries best. Best of all about the LWRC is it is an AR, and the ergo's of the AR is tops and what most of us are familiar with. At 100 yards the LWRC is around MOA for 5 shot groups with custom hand loads, the XCR will be about 2 MOA. Not a big difference for a combat rifle where you intend to shoot offhand and not off a bench. Also the ammo most of us shoot will be not accurate anyways, it will be military/factory ammo and not custom handloads.

The design of the LWRC at first did show "harshness" with the bolt shaving the bottom of the buffer tube, and the buffer itself getting dents all over it as if it was being striked by a ball peen hammer multiple times. However, over a couple of thousands of rounds the harshness seemed to have disappeared. The old two-piece carrier seems rugged but there are frequent reports of the key screws breaking. The new LWRC one-piece carrier has no keys to break, but the longer piston it uses seems it would be easier to bend. However, no problems yet have been reported due to the longer piston.

At the end of the day, the conclusion is this: The LWRC is well thought out design using an existing blue print, the XCR is a well thought out design from the basement up using the best features of all the great battle guns in the past (AR, FAL, AK).

Also worthy candidates for consideration:

SIG 516 (SIG gas piston AR upper.) MSRP is supposed to be $1300-1500 or so.
Ruger SR-556 (another gas piston AR type rifle.) also in the $1300-1500 range.

Get whichever one you like now. Just like the rest of us one rifle is not enough. You're going to another one anyways. I would wait until the scar goes down in price.
Take advantage of the rebate of the sig now if I were you. I just put my order in for the sig.
The XCR is also a excellent rifle. One of my fav rifles in my collection.

Get a NDS M16A1 style lower, and a M16A1 upper, all Colt. That's all you really need. All others are pretenders.

WELL?!?!?!?! Dont keep us hanging, you pick one up?

I called this morning and spoke with them. The employee didn't know If they would be able to disassemble the lower and upper before they ship them to Cali. He said call back tomorrow and talk to Neil he will be able to help since Cali has so much bad gun laws. Independent Armament will do the FFL for me but they have to receive the rifle disassembled or they will refuse shipping. On the bright side a fellow Calguner dpharley found a place in WI that will ship them plus make them Cali compliant with a mag lock and fixed stock for about $2600. I hope I get one tomorrow cuz its my Birth Day and I know everyone else is going to give me crappy presents

I have the following:

-FN SCAR

Pro: Great Lightweight, accurate, very reliable, and Just plain cool

Con: Ugly (My Opinion) * Over Priced

-Rob XCR

Pro: One of my favorite guns very nice trigger, accurate ,solid, reliable, low recoil, and Interchangeable Calibers. * Great gun for the Price.

Con: Heavy

-SIG 556

Pro: Great Rifle, reliable, accurate, nice trigger, and one of the best Gas Piston Variants for the Price! If you want to save money and want a nice rifle buy the Sig 556.

Con: Cheap plastic hand guards, little heavy, cant change the grip.

-MSAR

Pro: Light weight, accurate, short, fun to shoot! Great for the money. I just Love this gun!

Con: Finding mags

*** MY CHOICES IN ORDER ARE:

1. FN SCAR & ROB XCR *Almost a TIE if the Rob XCR was lighter.

2. MSAR

3. SIG 556

******* IN REGARDS TO THE BUSH ACR. I SHOT IT! WAY OVER PRICED! CHEAP GAS BLOCK AND FLASH HIDER! PLASTIC PLASTIC PLASTIC!*******

Have SIG 556 Holo rifle. Got it when it 1st came out, cost $1500+.
SIG shoots great and accurate, easy to clean - due to Gas Piston system.
But, yes, heavier front weight because of the piston and barrel setup.

Was Army long time, M16/M4- D.I. great rifle, but in the desert, the sand and fine dirt makes them jam a bit more, if not maintained. Sure, keep them clean and dust port closed and mag well and barrel end covered - no problem.
LWRC or build an AR - light and easy, shoots great most anywhere.

FN SCAR - want one - but 2k+ - will wait a bit more
Remington ACR - want this one too - multi-caliber and modular, looks damn cool.
Again - pricey $3k+ - waiting

I was going to get the ACR but I got a 60 inch Sony TV instead. When I go shooting with the SCAR there is always bunch of ppl around me asking all kinds of questions and wanting to play with the scar. I can say its way more cool then the ACR specially the tan one it stands out like a blond bimbo in a crowd ;) this is what the TV looks like
