A friend of mine brought this to me asking for some info on it. Seems it was sitting in his mother's closet for a few decades and he has no clue whether it is registered or if it even needs to be.

I'm not much on antique guns, but I'm sure it's a Mosin-Nagent. Beyond that I have no clue.

As for markings, there are a few.

There is what appears to be a "bomb" encased by a triangle on top of the barrel behind the front sight.

It has what looks like a serial number stamped on the top of the barrel behind the front sight: "137656".

There appears to be a production date stamped above this: "1937".

Above that is a Soviet sickle and hammer surrounded by a wreath. To the left of this is an inverted "U" encased in a circle.

On the top of the bolt assembly there is "1688".

On the bottom of the magazinewell (I think that's the nomenclature for it) there is "145860".

That's pretty much all the info I was able to find on the rifle. Like I said, I really don't know squat about antique rifles so there may be more to look for that I missed.

It's definitely a Mosin Nagant. It has been sporterized. I believe it's an Ishvek receiver.

Go here and you can check the various markings:
