Would like input from actual owners.
How is the accuracy ? I'm looking for .75 MOA and better.
I load 40gr. and 55gr. V-Max bullets
This load shoots pretty much .5 MOA in every 1:9 twist rifle I have tried it in, however the SPS is a 1:12 so I need some input fom owners that actually record there Targets.
Pics of actual Targets would be great.
Thanks

wrong bullets to use. out of an sps tactical, i was able to nail down just over a half inch grouop with 75gr match kings.

my buddy, a much better shot than I and about 20 years experience on me, had a 5 shot group at around .25 MOA on that same gun.

the 20 inch barrel is definitly more accurate in the sps line. heavier the better, it seems when it comes to bullets.

40 gr will most likly be all over the paper, and ive tried 50 grain vmax to about a 1 inch grouping. all from a rest of course. 100 yards, calm weather.

how are you measuring your groups?

I measure my Groups Center to Center.
I'm speaking of the standard SPS , don't want a heavy barrel.

Yeah if your trying to shoot BR you want the heaviest barrel possible. lol. I used to have a remington 700P in 223 with the 26" barrel and with good ammo it would shoot right around 3/4"

My SPS will shoot 1.5" to one hole groups with 26.5g H335 pushing the 40g V-Max bullets at ~3700FPS. Just depends on how well I do my job.

here's a nice set of guidelines and general information i consider when reloading re twist rate and bullet preference. good luck... ultimately, only patience and the continuous search for perfection will tell you what your rifle likes best... good luck!

I had an SPS tactical in 223.
It did not group anywhere near what I wanted with 69gr SMK's and Varget so I rebarreled it.
Now it's shooting 3/8" groups at 100yds.

did you just pull the stock barrel off and re-install it or did you swap barrels completely?

I trued the action, tightened the bolt to receiver fit and put a pacnor barrel on it.

basically you fixed most everything wrong with most factory rifles...
did you stay with a 1:9?

OK; Just to clarify.
I am considering the SPS .223 with standard barrel, not heavy barrel.
I do not want a Heavy barrel.
I will be using it for Yotes.
I will be using 40gr. and 55gr. V-Max bullets of a proven load that
shoots .5" Moa in nearly every gun I have tried it in.
Just wondering how the 700 SPS .223 standard barrel is as far as
accuracy goes.

I went to 1:8.
It shoots the 75 amaxes real nice too.
I also went to 26" long for more velocity.
It's a medium profile barrel, sorta between a sporter and a heavy barrel so it balances similar to the 20" heavy barrel.

It's my short-range training gun.
