View Full Version : LAR OPS-4 side charging uppers, any opinions or owners?
Looking into the right side charging model below...
I figure I live in Cali and I'll mostly be shooting/hunting here so I'll be using a tool in my right hand to depress a bullet button on the right side of the gun which will drop mags and I'll then re-load using my right hand so doesn't it make sense to have a right handed side charging upper? That way I don't have to switch hands mid re-load, right?
If I weren't in PRK I could drop mags with my finger and a left side charging handle and left handed re-loads would make sense but given the facts I think this is a good way to go.
Thoughts? Experiences? Especially from those that own/use side charging uppers left or right?

Saw t hem at SHOT show. Gigantic ejection port seems weird, but I was thinking of getting their "competition" upper just to try it out...
No one else huh? What about all you left side charging guys, I know at least a few of you have the Addax GPUs with side charging, do you find the left side charging convenient after using the bullet button?

I think this would be great for me since I'm left handed!

I have the Mega Billet Side Charging upper. It is very nice, solid and thick walls, price is $135-$150.
The only problem is finding a BCG like the one in the above picture. I know Youngs makes one but it is $250 and most places are out of stock.
Does anyone know which other manufacturer makes a complete BCG with side charger handle, please post links. Thank you.

I use ASA's left handed side charger, this is where Addax gets the upper receiver itself for his side charger. For a right handed shooter I feel it is vastly superior. ASA's side charger also utilizes a folding handle, a dust cover, and the handle is non recipricating. Here is an older, slightly outdated pic of my rifle but you get the idea:
Josh, am I correct that when you reload you use your right hand (for the bullet button) and the BAD lever to release the bolt catch so your left hand supports the rifle the whole time unless you have an issue where you have to re-charge the bolt?

Yep. And if I have to recharge the rifle, unlike a standard AR, I can keep cheek weld and my master grip (right hand on pistol grip).
Cool, looks like I'll stick with the ASA then. have you checked these out?...
