Had a pretty nice morning at Burro yesterday. Instead of trying to bring every single rifle I own, I concentrated on only a few that hadn't been exercised in a while, as well as two which I'm growing fonder of every time I shoot them.

that's the savage 10 that initially I was all set to sell, because the simmons scope it came with couldn't seem to hold zero. I put a Nikon buckmaster on it and believe it or not, managed to hit a golf ball I placed on the 200 yard berm!

this is the meagre arsenal I brought with me yesterday. In addition to the savage, I brought my trusty teenage queen, my M14, er, M1A. I also had my marlin 39a and my Finnish mosin 91/30. The mosin was all over the place for me for some reason, the reason I found out when I was cleaning it - the darn action screws were loose! Aargh! What a waste of ammo. Well, once I turn it's brother the M39 mosin into a scout/sniper rifle, I imagine plinking with 7.62x54 will become a lot more productive and fun.

Sheesh! There's no pleasing some people! I was by myself, and using my iPhone camera. I'll endeavour to post pics of my targets next time.

I didn't know Burro had a 200 yard range. What range number is it?

The rifle range goes out to 230 yards IIRC

Nice rifles... I was thinking of going up there to shoot this weekend. Do you know if they are allowing milsurp ammo yet? I hope so after all of the rain we have been having. I really need to sight in my scoped Mosin.

Love Burro. Great guys in the range shack, and only a 10 min drive up the hill! I think you'll like plinking w/ the M39 after you scout scope it. Got a "B" barrel and a VKT in that configuration.

Those are some fine looking guns. I'm admiring that Marlin 39 you have on the bench. Those are really fun to shoot.

Yeah - I really like my Marlin 39. 19 rounds of .22LR fun! :D As much fun as my synthetic-stocked, semi-auto Ruger 10/22 is, the Marlin is a living reminder of a bygone era when high polish bluing and nicely grained walnut furniture was the norm, not a custom job. Mine came with the Weaver C4 scope which, despite the small objective lens, is perfectly suited to the rifle - low slung, slim, and svelte. I wish they still made scopes like these that weren't the cheapie Airsoft kind.

Yes - IIRC they only start requiring non-steel cored ammo after May 1st. So bring your Mosins and burn up that x54!
