The expulsion of a Willows High School student who left shotguns in his truck, parked off campus, during school hours was unanimously overturned today by the Glenn County Board of Education.

Gary Tudesko, 17, was expelled from Willows High on Nov. 19 by the Willows Unified School District on a 4-0 vote, with now board President Alex Parisio abstaining because he is related to Tudesko.

Tudesko, a lifelong hunter, was suspended from school Oct. 26 after detection dogs "hit" on his truck during a campus search for student contraband.

Tudesko was called out of class and admitted having two shotguns and birdshot ammunition in his vehicle, which was parked on Willow Street near the high school campus. Both guns were unloaded and secured inside his locked vehicle, authorities confirmed.

Tudesko said he went waterfowl hunting that morning with a friend before school. He said he hunted for roughly one hour.

Tudesko, with the backing of national and state gun rights groups, contacted through his family's political connections, appealed his expulsion Tuesday at the county office of education. The board voted 5-0 to overturn the expulsion today.

It was not immediately clear if the Willows Unified School District plans to fight the decision in court.
